After a long day at school, the bell finally rang. And as I was heading back home, I saw a beautiful girl, getting shouted at by a lady outside a store.
After the lady left, she was left there alone in the rain. I approached and I asked her:

“What are you doing out in the rain?”

I asked, but it didn't seem like she would tell me anything. So, I gave up, and was about to leave. But I couldn’t help myself from worrying about her. So, I went back and forced an umbrella into her hands and sprinted back home. I heard her shout, but I just ignored it.

The next day, I got sick. And as I was about to open the door to my house, I see her come to me.
“Did you get sick because of me?”
“No”

She didn’t listen to me and forced herself into my home and tried to take care of me. However, as she was about to cook, I noticed something. She was just looking around, doing nothing, and was panicking. At this point I asked:

“Do you even know how to cook?”
She froze, and after a few seconds of silence, she nervously turned around and said:
“O-Of course…”

Lies.

The Prettiest Girl In Our School Was My Neighbour

"Yosh" I brought out my wok and placed it onto the stove. After that, I heard Sakurai say something.


"Can you cut the spring onions and shallot?"


"Of course I can." She answered as if I was joking.


I mean, I don't know how good you are in the kitchen yet, so just to make sure nothing goes incredibly wrong, I'll give you the simple tasks.


"Great, here cut the vegetables into small pieces like these."


I then proceeded to cut the chilis into small pieces and told her:


"Do these with the Spring onion, shallot. I'll do the chili and garlic. Can you also crack open 4 eggs? Use 2 whole eggs and 2 egg yolks. Also, make the shallots finer than the spring onions."


"Sure… but I can't help but feel like you're treating me like a child…"


"…" She looked at me with a blank face… It did look quite funny tho…


"Sorry, it was just a joke. I just gave those to you because garlic smells and the liquid from the chilis could go to your eyes."


"Well, considering I've been cooking food for you for a while now, yeah it does feel like it."


"…Well, I guess our relationship is quite abnormal…"


"Yeah, normally only couples would do something like this."


"I guess so, huh? Well, I only consider you as a friend and nothing more. I hope that's the case for you too though."


"Don't worry. I've never been interested in you in the first place."


"Even if i'm not interested in you too, that kind of hurt you know?" She said in a low voice.


I then brought out two cutting boards and knives. Next, I brought out the small bowls where we'll place the cut ingredients for prep. After that, we started cutting the vegetables. After that, she was surprisingly able to make the egg mixture, and I started to cook.


It was just a simple fried rice. I just put some oil in the wok and waited for the wok hay, then put the garlic and shallot and let them fry until they turn fragrant. I then put in the eggs and fried them until they get fluffy then scrambled them.


I finally then added the rice and stirred them to break them apart. After that, I added soy sauce, sesame oil, MSG and white pepper and stirred them around. After the color spreads, I put the spring onion and chili in and tossed them.


While tossing, I noticed Sakurai staring at me with glittering eyes… Well I guess doing something like this is pretty impressive. After that, I put the fried rice onto two plates and put them on the table. Sakurai-san then followed me to the table and said:


"Um… I can't actually handle spice very well… I'm sorry for mentioning this late…"


Heh~ so the school Idol can't handle spice huh… I thought.


"It's not that spicy. Although if you do need it, I guess I'll bring out some milk in a glass for you." I said


I then walked towards the fridge to get the milk. And while I was doing that, I heard Sakurai mutter something.


"This is quite embarrassing…" I heard her say that in a low voice while keeping her head down. 


After reaching the fridge, I opened it and got the milk out. I put some in a glass and walked back to the table where Sakurai is currently sitting at. I then placed the glass of milk next to her plate. 


"Thanks." She thanked me and I then finally sat in my chair.


We then started eating. And from time to time, Sakurai drank a bit of the milk until we finally finished.


"It was delicious. The spice enhances the flavor, but it's a little too much for me…"


"Anyway, thank you for always helping me out."


"No problem. I do it with my own will. Also, I have one question for you."


"The anime we watched earlier… how was it?"
