Chapter 1

Adrenaline was rushing through my whole body as I continued running around the building in search of my fellow hunter, Noah. After running up 10 flights of stairs I felt myself out of breath and took a quick break. I could feel the endless amount of sweat running down my back and making my t-shirt cling to my body.

"I definitely need a shower once I get back," I muttered in annoyance.

Suddenly, a piercing scream erupted from nearby and I found myself racing towards it. Following the source of the sound, I entered a room and was greeted to the sight of a badly beaten up Noah, and a vampire holding a knife to his throat. Noah's hands and legs were bound with some rope which had obviously been bewitched with some sort of magic, or else he would've been able to break free and escape.

"Welcome, hunter. Come to watch your friend die?"

I nodded my head at Noah as a sign of promise that I would save him, and then turned my attention to the vampire. "You filthy blood sucking beast, I'm going to kill you."

He snapped his fingers and 10 pairs of yellow eyes appeared in the darkness of the room surrounding me.

"You are the one outnumbered, silly girl."

Without even looking, I grabbed three Shuriken and directed them to the corner in the right. Immediately, three vamps clutched their throat as blood poured, and moments later their lifeless body fell to the ground. "I don't think you want to test my skills."

"Impressive. But, your friend, the traitor Noah must die today."

"Traitor? What are you talking about?!"

"Oh deary me, boy. Have you not told your little girlfriend? Why don't I tell her –"

Before the Elder vampire could continue, Noah threw his head backwards and knocked the Elder in the face, which left him unconscious on the floor. Reacting immediately, I threw one of my enchanted knives to Noah. He cut the ropes and ran to my side.

"Hey there sweetie, good to see you again."

"I missed you too. Now, enough chit chat. It's time to kill some vamps."

Without hesitation, we launched ourselves towards the vampires and slaughtered them one by one with ease. As I was preoccupied with two vamps, I noticed from the corner of my eye that the Elder was no longer lying on the floor. Instead, he had apparated behind Noah who was focused on an ascendant ranked vampire. Giving me a smirk the Elder vampire threw his arms in the air and then punctured his talon sharp claws into Noah's back.

Noah's body fell to the ground and he muttered something to me. But I was unable to make out the words as my vision was blurred by my tears. Ignorant to the vampires that were still standing well and alive behind me, I felt claws digging into my left abdomen. Instead of feeling pain, I felt anger. I lashed my sword at the two vampires and decapitated their heads, and then rushed over to Noah's lifeless body. I could feel the blood oozing out from my wound, but I ignored it as all that filled my thoughts was that Noah's lifeless body.

"I-I-swear that I will kill you and every damn vampire in this world." I gathered all my might and pushed myself up from the floor, with one hand still pressuring on my wound to stop the blood. Using his vampire skills, the Elder rushed towards me quicker than lightning itself and grabbed my neck. His fingers trickled around my wound and then he pressed on it. I let out a cry of agony whilst the vampires laughed in response.

"Such a weak and pathetic hunter. To be honest, I would love to rip your head off right now, but what fun would that be. I want to watch you suffer. Enjoy mourning your boyfriend."

The Elder vamp threw me onto the floor and his minions jumped out the window. Before leaving, the Elder vamp turned towards me and muttered something, but I could only make out the words 'war' and 'coming'. He gave me a smirk and then disappeared out into the darkness. I tried following them to the window, but my legs wobbled and I felt myself sink onto the floor.

"Noah...please wake up. Don't leave me. What about all the things you promised me?!"

Tears ran down my face and I felt every part of my body breaking down. The pain from my wound was now tormenting, but it was nothing compared to the pain I felt for Noah's dead body laying in front of me. I placed my head on Noah's chest and wrapped my arms around him, and slowly my eyes grew heavier from the growing stinging pain where the vampire had stabbed me. Before my eyes flickered into darkness, I made a promise to Noah. I was going to avenge his death no matter what it took.
