Recovery

Nodding at Tahnee and Slaton, Sheriff Colebridge addressed Brenna.

“We need to ask you some questions.” Brenna nodded. She knew this was coming. Glancing at the other visitors, he continued, “Is now a good time?”

“Yes. They can stay.” No way did she want them away from her. She would probably lose what sanity she had left if they left.

“Brenna, do you remember what happened to you yesterday?” He held his hat by its brim with his fingertips moving it around between his roughened fingers.

Her throat tightened as she glanced down at her hands and focused on the memories she had tried to keep at bay. The monitor above her head showed an increase in pulse rate. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Tahnee turn to watch the monitor. Tahnee put her hand on Slaton to hold him back from moving forward to comfort her. Might as well face it now.
