Sounds

He heard the front door open. Straightening up he opened the door for Brenna. Closing it after she was in, he leaned in.

“I’m sorry.”

She stared straight ahead ignoring him. Apology was not accepted.

Sighing, he pulled back and went to the driver’s side. Starting the truck, he sat there. He made no move to put it into gear.

Turning toward her, he said, “I’m sorry, Brenna. I don’t know what else to say.”

Still nothing. He could tell that she was very hurt and angry, and he had no one to blame but himself. Putting the truck in gear, he began the trip into town. He was beginning to be just as angry at himself for being so stupid.

When they arrived at her apartment building, she got out and began walking before Slaton could come around and open the door for her. A part of her was paying attention to everything around her, but with the shadows lengthening, she couldn’t see too much. Slaton followed quietly up the stairs until they reached her door.
