Everyone was seated around the table finishing up Tahnee’s pancake breakfast when the phone rang. Grey took another bite of his breakfast before getting up and reaching for the phone located by the door on the wall. Layford watched his dad carefully and reached out with his hands to quickly snatch one of Grey’s pancakes off his plate. He then placed it on his own empty plate. They boy was beginning to act like he had two hollow legs.

“When?” His tone took a serious edge. Tahnee stopped eating and watched her husband. Slaton froze and put his hand on Brenna’s back in a protective gesture. They knew something wasn’t right. Layford, on the other hand, kept right on eating.
