Layford took the long way home. Anger was boiling inside of him from the abuse he witnessed Miakoda and her mother taking. He almost changed into wolf form but knew his mother would pick up on it. She’d want to know what happened. Instead, he ran hard through the woods deliberately choosing a path that was full of hills and rocks. He wanted a challenge. He needed to get the frustration out.
Small animals moved quickly out of Layford’s path as he surged forward. Though not in transition phase, he was faster than most boys his age and the anger inside pushed him even faster. Low branches slammed into him, but he continued without noticing. His feet pounded on the uneven ground as his mind tried to comprehend his wild thoughts and what had happened.
