The next day, Layford was walking through the living room when he heard Miakoda’s name spoken softly from the kitchen. He paused and tilted his head so he could hear better. He picked out the voice of his parents.
“It’s such a shame,” Tahnee said in a low voice. “She won’t come out of the house. I got her to let me in, and you would not believe her face.”
The sound of a cup being placed on the table was heard. Grey spoke up, “That’s it. We have to talk to that man.”
Tahnee’s voice raised an octave. “Talk? A man who breaks his wife’s tooth, blinds her with swollen eyes, and splits her lip does not talk. That is not counting the numerous bruises on both of them. I think she has a hurt neck, too. Talk? There is no talking to him. A swift use of a two by four would be a great start.”
Grey muttered a few words before saying, “You said Miakoda was bruised?”
