Plans

As preparations were being made, everyone scattered. Slaton and Brenna were going through their stuff picking out what could fit in a hiker’s backpack. Knowing there was little space, Brenna looked for a couple of pair of shorts that didn’t take up too much room, plus the jeans she was wearing. Two extra t-shirts were also chosen as well as one extra pair of socks. She knew she was pushing the limit but decided she could always dump anything extra. Slaton was doing the same on the other side of the room knowing that they had to leave room for food, too, though he hoped to use the horse they were taking to ease that burden.

Grey was in Layford’s room helping him to pack and giving him some advice.

“Son, this is a special assignment you’ve been given.” Grey handed him a rolled up t-shirt to fit into the backpack.

Layford stood up and looked at his father. “I know. Trust me, I know. In fact, I have no idea why you aren’t the one going.”
