Surprise

A knock at the door drew their attention. Grey opened the door to find Miakoda’s mother standing there looking nervous. She gave a quick smile to Grey as her eyes sought out Tahnee’s.

“Come in, Laura.” Grey stepped back to give her access to the living room.

“Oh, I don’t want to bother you if you are busy.” Laura smoothed her hands down the long denim skirt she wore.

Tahnee moved forward and gently pulled Laura into the house. “It’s no bother. We were just talking about the kids.” She led her to the couch where the woman sat down nervously looking around. Her hands fluttered about, trying to find something to do.

“That is what I came over for.” She shifted. “Steve left to go fishing with a friend…and…I hadn’t heard anything.”

Hoping to ease her nerves, Tahnee took both hands in her own. “It’s okay. They are okay. Why don’t we go in the kitchen and get some tea?”

Grey cleared his throat. “I’m going out to do my own patrol. I’ll be back in a few hours.”
