Brenna’s warning fell on deaf ears. Slaton was intent on ending this now. Jolon had to die. They couldn’t go on running from this demon any more. Slaton only prayed he could pull up a weapon to do the job right. A miracle is what he hoped for. There was no way he’d let Jolon hurt Brenna. He’d give his life protecting her.
Jolon ran across the rocks with Slaton right behind him as Brenna watched the chase disappear from view. Slaton followed quickly, closing the gap between them. He could feel an increase in the speed he was capable of. Never had he felt such power or moved as fast as he was across the crevices. His legs moved with more power than ever before. His lungs seemed able to expand further to give him more oxygen. This was something new and needed at the moment and something that felt good.
