Slaton had no idea how long he had been in the cave. Sakari had not appeared since that first day. He had been alone the entire time.
He spent his time pacing the chamber, examining the walls for a way out, and sleeping. Each time he awoke from slumber, he found food beside him. He could only assume Sakari had brought it.
It was sometimes more yehana or fruit or wild mushrooms. He would sit and eat the gifts as he looked down into the pool thinking of his situation. Slaton tried not to think of Brenna too much only because it brought out a sense of restlessness and anger. He only wanted to get out of the cave, but Sakari was determined he was to stay and grow.
Grow? It was still unclear what he was to grow with. Out of frustration, he tossed the remains of his food into the pool where it quickly disappeared. Small fish moved around it and gladly took his scraps.
