Layford and Miakoda had moved past the place they had found the chest. Past that, Layford led them fifty yards further before there was a fork in the path. He paused at the split and stepped aside so Miakoda could see past him at his dilemma.
“Where did that come from?” Miakoda quickly spread out the map in her hand and followed the line of the tunnel they were in. “This fork isn’t here.”
“I know.” Layford took a deep breath. “Which direction does the map how the tunnel going?”
She looked closely at the area she estimated they were at. “It looks to go slightly to the right about where we are. Further down it kind of zig-zags.”
“Maybe the tunnel on the left was made after the map was drawn?” He held the flashlight up to shine down the new tunnel.
“If George drew this, then who would have made the tunnel? Have there been others here that we don’t know about?”
