They only grabbed the flashlight and the bag of candles. Layford led the way with the map in his hand. They had not explored enough of the cave system to find the exact paths out. There appeared to be marked on the map. Layford just had to follow the map to them.


Speed was important. All three were moving at a fast pace, though not as fast as any of them would have liked. Several times, Layford had to stop and consult the map when they came upon branches in the path.


Brenna was getting impatient. She wanted to get there now, but knew that was not possible. She had to be patient and think. Too much was riding on what she did once they reached the outside.


Grey felt his heart rip into as he rode up to see Tahnee lying on the ground motionless. He had been relieved to feel her pulse when he got to her. But what had happened? Why was she unconscious?
