Final Steps

Seeing Brenna was the closest thing to happiness Jolon had felt in years. There she was for the taking. He had been right. She couldn’t resist coming out to save Tahnee. In a sense he was disappointed, but at least it would all end now.

His senses picked up something moving closer to them. He sniffed the air. It couldn’t be. He had left him for dead.

Jolon turned to where his eyes could take in the form streaking in. It was Tadi. How could that have happened? His blood had flowed beyond repair. No shapeshifter could have healed that fast. It was impossible. Even Jolon had trouble healing at such speeds and have the strength Tadi possessed at that moment.

Jolon braced himself for the impact of Tadi’s wolf body, but it never came. Instead Tadi had pulled up short and growled at Jolon. Confusion set in. The wolf had to be up to something. His sister was at Jolon’s mercy. His niece was coming to Jolon to sacrifice herself. Why wasn’t the damn wolf attacking?
