Just as I was about to place my hand on the knob, the door swung open, catching me off guard.
And then it hit me, the most delicious scent in the world, he made my mouth water and not out of hunger.
I looked up and our eyes met, he had the darkest eyes I had ever seen. Most people would be scared, but I was drawn even further into his alluring gaze.
'Mate' I heard Ares say, but I was too mesmerized by the man in front of me to process what she had said.
For some reason I wanted him to wrap his strong arms around my waist and hold me against his chest.
I wondered how his lips would feel against mine. I wanted to have his hands caress every inch of my body as I gazed into his dark eyes.
"What's your name?" He asked in a deep voice that became my undoing.
My name? Did any name matter aside from his?
"Amaya, you're late!" I am suddenly pulled back from the haze that I was in as I heard my fathers impatient tone.
He wasn't mad, but he wasn't happy either. I was late, I had delayed the meeting.
"Amaya." The man in front of me whispers as the very mention of my name coming from his lips makes me want to press my lips against his.
I wanted to hear him say my name even more.
"Is this some sort of joke, Alpha Matthew?" A man, roughly the same age as my father asked as he gave me a disgusted look. "Dressing a woman like the next Alpha, what do you take us for, fools?"
My blood boiled as the man, an Alpha based on his aura, insulted me. I readied myself to attack the man for having thought a woman could not be an alpha.
"Alpha Jason, weren't you going to the restroom?" A melodic voice to my right asked.
I turned to see a woman in a red dress, her skin pale as if she had never stepped under the sun. She was a vampire, an original vampire, or at least someone descended from an original.
For some reason I wanted to rip her head from her body as she spoke flirtatiously towards the alpha in front of me.
Alpha Jason, Jason, it was the most beautiful name I had ever heard, it fit the perfect image of a man that stood in front of me.
"I'd rather stay." Alpha Jason said as he stole a glance at me. His black eyes met mine once more as he combed his black hair backwards.
"She is my daughter and my heir." I heard my father say in a proud tone as he smiled at me and waved me over.
"This is an insult to us! A woman cannot sit among alphas!" The older alpha shouted.
To my surprise Alpha Jason suddenly attacked him, making the lunas in the room scream from fright.
The luna of the man he had attacked began to cry as my father and brother rushed over to pull the two men apart.
Alpha Jason was a large man, and my brother struggled to pull him off of the other Alpha.
I decided to try my luck as I stepped forward and helped my brother to try to separate the two men.
"Amaya, get away!" Merrick shouted at me as I refused to listen.
I wrap my arms around Alpha Jason's left arm, while my brother has his right. We pull together and eventually get him to back off from attacking the other Alpha.
"You placed my sister at risk!" Merrick hissed as he glared at Alpha Jason. "You are lucky you are a powerful Alpha, or my father would have you head for risking her safety."
"Are you alright?" Alpha Jason asked as he brushed his fingers against my cheek, sending sparks across my skin.
What was this foreign feeling? Why was my body acting this way around Alpha Jason?
"Amaya?" My brother asked, making me turn to face him.
"I can handle myself, Merrick." I hissed. It annoyed me to no end when my father or brother would act as if I were some defenseless she-wolf.
I could handle myself, I wasn't weak, ever since my first shift I've spent countless hours in the gym, in the woods, and in the training center, honing both my wolf and human strength.
"Why did you attack me?" The older Alpha asked as he glared at Alpha Jason. "You should also be offended by this woman's presence. Do you not know what a female alpha means to our world?" The man asked.
"Get your head out of your ass Alpha Cain!" I heard Merrick scold, making some of the younger Alphas and other supernaturals laugh. "Times are changing, you should stop thinking that female alphas are the harbingers of death and destruction."
"You are all stupid!" Alpha Cain shouted as he looked at the younger Alphas in the room as he returned his gaze to Alpha Jason and Merrick. "Especially the two of you. How dare you defend a woman that will be our doom."
"Watch your words Alpha Cain, that woman is my daughter and my heir!" My father warned as his eyes darkened and his fangs began to protrude.
It was when my father lost his temper that I feared him the most. He was calm most of the time, but when angered he was like a turbulent tornado.
"I got this, Alpha Matthew." Alpha Jason said as he gave my father a respectful nod and turned his attention back to Alpha Cain.
"Simple." Alpha Jason said with a chuckle as he wrapped an arm around my waist. "She is my mate, my Luna, and if she wants, the future alpha of this pack." He declared, making everyone in the room gasp in shock.
Even I was confused as I eyed him with concern.
Is that why I felt sparks and tingles everywhere he touched me? Is that why I felt the urge to rip the vampire that had spoken to him to shreds?
'You would have known sooner if you listened to me.' I heard Ares scold in my head as she rolled her eyes at how blind I had been.
