AN ALPHA'S MATE

I decided to enter the hall escorted by Jason, by now everyone must have figured out that we were mates.

News often traveled like wildfire across the pack, especially when it came to our family.

Since today was my birthday, everyone was invited, but there was a little twist. It was no longer the same simple celebration I had wanted.

It was now grand and mixed together with a welcoming dinner for our guests.

They would be tonight's focus and my birthday would simply be a footnote.

'It's not like we care.' Ares told me in my head.

'Of course not, all that matters is the fact that we now have our mate. Everything is perfect.' I told her as I smiled at Jason who stood next to me.

"Are you alright, love?" Jason asked as I saw the tenderness in his eyes.

"I am, it's never been better." I told Jason. "I'm serious, being with you, finding you has made my life a thousand times better."

"I love you." Jason said as he bent down and kissed me passionately, pulling me closer till my chest was against his.

While we were caught in our passionate exchange, someone coughed from behind us, making us break away.

Jason, however, did not release me from his hold as he kept me close to him, as if he were trying to protect me from an unknown enemy.

As I stayed pressed against him, I felt a growl vibrate from his chest. His wolf, Hercules, was mad at whoever interrupted us.

'Male wolves are known to hate interruptions when it comes to their time with their mates.' Ares reminded me.

'And Alphas have it the worst.' I said with a sigh as I turned to see who had made my mate so angry, and in a way had disappointed me.

If that make out session had gone on any longer I think we would have ditched the entire dinner and would have run up to my room to complete the mating.

As the mate bond developed, it became harder and harder to resist each other.

It was the moon goddess' way of making sure that true mates ended up together and that they didn't push each other away.

There was a reason why she paired wolves to one another, it was because they would be the best fit.

"Be careful cousin, you found yourself quite a mate." A familiar voice said with a sinister laugh.

I turned to find Jason's cousin, Alpha Sean Davis, he led the Blood Moon pack. Jason's mother was the older sister of Alpha Sean's father, the retired leader of the Blood Moon pack.

I couldn't help but wonder how things would have turned out if the Blood Moon pack followed the same traditions as my own pack, the Shadows Pack. Our people allowed me to someday inherit the title of Alpha.

Most packs refused to allow a female to be it's leader, thinking we were the lesser gender, something they were completely wrong about.

"She's mine, Sean." I heard Jason growl as his cousin showed his teeth.

Clearly both their wolves were close to coming out and starting a fight. I didn't quite understand why there was such a rift between them, but I knew that when two original Alphas fought, no one could stop them.

And despite knowing that my mate could easily take down his cousin, I didn't want any more drama to happen on my birthday.

"I'm yours and I will always be yours Jason." I told him in as calm a tone as I could muster.

"Such a sweet woman." Sean said with a chuckle. "Miss Amaya Raven, you do know that you are the most prized shewolf out there? Right?"

"I have my mate, I'm off the table." I tell Alpha Sean in a cold tone as I glare at him.

"You can still be taken, miss future Alpha." Alpha Sean said, making me worry about what he meant.

"Don't make her worry, Sean. It's not good to lie." Jason warned his cousin.

"I'm just reminding you, cousin, or have you forgotten that an Alpha's mate can still be taken till she is proclaimed Luna?" Sean asked with a grin. "I shall see both of you at the banquet." Sean said with a wave as he left us alone in the hall.

I couldn't help but wonder what he meant, this was not something we had been taught in school, as a matter of fact this was the first time I was hearing about this.

"We need to talk." Jason said with a sigh as he pulled me aside.

"This way." I told him as we entered an empty office.

Clearly there was some truth in what Alpha Sean had just said.
