The prodigy takes the stage

Magic never ceased to amaze me. The number of different ways in which it can be applied was startling. It could, in one way or another, be applied to all walks of life. Abby continued to fight another two times.

The second time was against a small troll about 1 meter tall. According to Jenna, it was called a stone-faced river troll. Evident by their stone flat faces, grey cracked skin. By the name itself, it was implied that they lived by rivers.

Another harmless creature when facing a single one. The danger lay when there were more. Jenna explained that they would usually be found in groups of 10-20 and they are very deadly. Usually, they are fast and blend in with the surroundings. They have strong swimming abilities and sharp claws.

Their weakness was lightning. Although they have 'stone' in their name, they were actually more amphibious creatures that lived in small holes on the riverside or on the river bed. Their faces resembled stones and when they shut their eyes, you wouldn't know that they were there at all.

Abby used a small lightning spell that instantly fried the beast to cinders.

The last beast was a poison bark pixie. Although they are small don't let that fool you. This was actually the toughest beast on the first floor that could actually face some of the second-floor beasts and win.

This was because it could create small plants that shoot out small almost untraceable poison needles. If even one hit you, you would be knocked out within half a minute. You would experience nausea, searing pain in your stomach and numbness in your arms.

All this before you even fell unconscious. The thing is, their attack patterns are incredibly simple and anticipating their attacks proves to be an easy task. This is due to the environment. These pixies are from dense forests where they can perform ambushes. They usually have these small plants all over the place in special and advantageous locations.

But since this is an open plain, they have no way to gain an advantage. Their weakness is blunt force and earth element magic. Both go well with the other as seem when a fist shot out of the ground and slammed into the pixie instantly defeating it. they had very weak defences due to their small bodies but high magical resistance. Hence the blunt force.

Abby seemed to be incredibly well versed in spells and charms that boosted her combat prowess.

"These are all the spells she has been able to buy using points. Since she doesn't do that well in other subjects, she has a limited pool of spells, but she has mastered them completely." Percival commented.

I nodded in understanding; it was normal for something like that to happen. A similar example would be Neville Longbottom. He has mediocre scores in all subjects except herbology. He excels above everyone in that subject which gains him points from the teacher on a regular basis. According to my memory of last year's exams, the kid actually scored a full 100% on it trumping everyone in the whole grade. This massively shifted his just failing scores and allowed him to pass.

This was probably the case for Abby as well.

As she made her way out of the field I stood up suddenly and made my way down.

"Well done out there, you have some serious potential!" I commented with a smile as I passed her. She looked at me and nodded silently before continuing up the steps. I attributed it to her competitiveness, but I didn't care for the cold shoulder anyway.

Professor Walter smiled widely when he saw me coming, "Ah! Mr Knight, up to give it a shot?" he asked.

"Of course, I have to get the points available, am I free to go in whenever?" I asked back.

Walter nodded, "that's right, you can go whenever," he said and raised his arms invitingly.

I made my way in and glided through the soft vibrant green grass and stood where Abby once did. I decided to use my wand. Not for any other reason but because I felt like switching it up a little. After all, my poor wand had been in my bracelet storage space since the end of the first year. I felt bad.

The wand seemed to be mad and vibrated slightly. I chuckled softly, "relax, we'll be killing some beasts, you can let loose," I whispered. Wands had some sentience and although I doubted it could understand what I said, I was sure it got my meaning.

The wand seemed to have calmed down and complied. I nodded and raised my head towards the spot where the beast would appear.

Not long after, a 3-meter long python appeared. I had no idea what kind of beast it was or what its weaknesses were since I didn't study the encyclopaedia, but I assumed brute force or sharp and precise cutting spells would work if we took into consideration the body of the snake. It was flexible but its skeleton was brittle and light.

So, with that in mind, I stood there and waited for the forcefield to be up before beginning. Professor Walter nodded and the fight began.

In normal jungles full of normal fauna, pythons had massive constricting strength but were slow as shit. but what I was seeing now was not the same, the python was very quick as it covered several meters in 2 seconds.

It was already about 10 meters away from me, something it could cover in an estimated 3.5 seconds.

I smiled and stood there as I waited for the snake to get close. As I got into its strike range it instantly lunged forwards as a putrid smell of blood wafted out of its wide-open mouth. Long shiny teeth reflected the light as it came towards me.

I turned sideways and avoided the hit and casually waved my wand half a meter away from its neck. As if an invisible blade had passed through, the snake was cut in half as its head rolled to the side before dissipating in golden light.
