Insurmoutable walls

The next morning, the air around Ilvermorny was tinged with a sense of eager anticipation as Jenna prepared for her duel. Unlike the rest of us, her strength lay not in brute force or flamboyant spellcasting, but in her profound understanding of magic and its subtleties. Jenna was a strategist, a thinker, her mind a labyrinth of knowledge and tactics.

Her opponent was a boy from Pukwudgie house, known for his adaptability and quick reflexes. He stood across from her, an air of confidence about him, but Jenna remained unfazed, her expression calm and collected.

As the duel began, Jenna's approach was immediately evident. She opened with a series of complex, lesser-known spells, each carefully chosen to test her opponent's defenses. Her first spell was a Serpensortia, conjuring a snake not as an attack but as a distraction, a way to gauge his reaction and adaptability.

Her opponent countered with a Vanishing Spell, dispelling the snake instantly. Jenna, however, was already moving on to her next spell, a Confundus Charm aimed not directly at him but at the ground near his feet, creating a disorienting illusion of unsteady terrain.

He stumbled momentarily, thrown off balance, but quickly regained his footing. Jenna took this opportunity to cast a series of quick, jabbing spells, each a feint designed to draw out his defensive strategy. She used a variety of spells – from Stinging Hexes to Disarming Charms – each delivered with precision, forcing him to constantly shift his defensive approach.

Jenna's style was like a game of magical chess, each move calculated, each spell serving a purpose in the larger strategy. She was always thinking several steps ahead, anticipating her opponent's moves and countering them before they could fully materialize.

Her opponent, growing increasingly flustered, attempted a more aggressive approach, casting a series of Bludgeoning Curses. Jenna, however, was prepared. She deftly sidestepped the first curse and used a Shield Charm to absorb the second. Then, seizing the moment, she cast a Binding Spell, subtly altering its trajectory to curve around his shield.

The spell hit its mark, wrapping around his legs and causing him to stumble. Jenna didn't waste a moment. With a swift motion, she cast a Silencing Charm, effectively preventing him from verbalizing any more spells.

With her opponent now silenced and immobilized, Jenna calmly approached him and gently tapped his shoulder with her wand, signaling the end of the duel. The crowd, which had been following the duel with rapt attention, erupted into applause. Jenna's victory was a masterclass in magical strategy and execution.

Her friends were the first to congratulate her. "Jenna, that was brilliant!" I exclaimed. "Your use of strategy and unconventional spells was incredible."

Percival, always appreciative of a good show, added, "You turned a duel into a battle of wits. It was like watching a grandmaster at work."

Abby nodded in agreement. "Your understanding of spells and how to counter them is unparalleled. You didn't just outfight him; you outthought him."

Fred, in his usual laconic style, gave a thumbs-up, his respect for Jenna's prowess clear in his gesture.

The end of the tournament's second day arrived with a flourish of excitement, the grounds of Ilvermorny thrumming with anticipation. I stood at the center of the dueling platform, facing my opponent, a skilled wizard from Horned Serpent house. He was known for his powerful offensive spells, but I had a plan that would tip the scales in my favor.

As the duel commenced, the air crackled with tension. My opponent wasted no time, unleashing a barrage of spells, each one a testament to his prowess. Fiery jets, stunning spells, and even a few dark curses flew towards me. But I stood my ground, calmly deflecting each attack with my wand.

Then, with a deep breath, I focused my mind and whispered the incantation, "Piertotum Locomotor." A surge of magical energy coursed through me, and the ground around the dueling platform began to tremble.

From the earth, stone figures emerged, creatures both human and not. A lion with a mane of jagged rock, a towering figure of a knight, and a swift, stone eagle took form, their movements fluid and lifelike. The crowd gasped in awe, their murmurs turning into cheers.

My opponent, taken aback by this display, tried to retaliate, but the stone creatures were quick to respond. The lion pounced, blocking his spells, while the eagle soared overhead, casting a protective shadow over me. The knight advanced, its stone sword raised, not to strike, but to intimidate.

The teachers and students watched in fascination. Professor Hinkel, known for his innovative approach to transfiguration, leaned forward, his eyes alight with interest. "Remarkable use of Piertotum Locomotor," he murmured, impressed by the sophistication of the spell.

The duel had turned into a spectacle, my control over the stone creatures absolute. Each move from my opponent was countered effortlessly by my conjured guardians. It wasn't just a display of power; it was a masterful exhibition of control and magical finesse.

Fred and Percival were on their feet, cheering loudly, while Jenna and Abby watched with wide eyes, their expressions a mix of astonishment and pride.

As the duel continued, it became clear that I had the upper hand. My opponent, overwhelmed by the relentless defense of the stone creatures, began to falter. With a final, elegant wave of my wand, I directed the knight to gently disarm him, its stone hand closing around his wand and wisking it away.

The crowd erupted into thunderous applause as the referee declared me the winner. My stone creations crumbled back into the earth, leaving no trace of their brief but formidable existence.

As I stepped down from the platform, my friends rushed over. "That was incredible!" exclaimed Abby. "The way you controlled those creatures... it was like they were an extension of you!"

Percival clapped me on the back, grinning. "You turned a duel into a show of art! Those creatures... it was like they came straight out of a legend!"

Even the professors, usually reserved in their praise, nodded in approval. Professor Hinkel approached me, his eyes still reflecting the excitement of the duel. "Your understanding and application of that spell shows a depth of magical comprehension that is truly impressive. Well done."
