Chapter 9: Mike's Father

Mike walked to the bench on the sidelines while waiting for Carson to defeat the 2 trainers. Mike was admiring his very first badge, It was shiny. He knew his mother would be proud of him, but she was in Team Boom's captivity. A few years ago, his mother told the story of how his father wanted to be a Pokemon master. His father had only collected 3 badges, then stopped because Mike's grandfather didn't want him to become a Pokemon Master and told him to get a real job.

Mike knew that if his father was alive now, he wouldn't have said that to him. Mike's father always carried the 3 badges no matter what. He would bring them to all of the Team Boom meetings. When his father died, they decided to bury the 3 badges with his father in Moako Cemetery. He decided that he would take down Team Boom with him and his friends to save his mother. Carson had defeated the 2 trainers with ease and was going to battle Simon. Simon was getting emotional as it was his final battle as Centron City's Gym Leader. The 2nd time was a charm and Carson got the badge from Simon. Simon ordered everyone to exit the building.

Simon turned off the lights and locked the door. He told Mike and the gang to go back to their hotel room and told him to go to the gym at 6:00 PM that evening. That evening, Simon announced his retirement in a press conference outside the gym. Then, he revealed his successor as the Gym Leader. The new gym leader of Centron City would be Simon's Niece, Gabriella. Gabriella revealed that Centron City's gym will still be using steel as their speciality. They were talking at the press conference for about 20 minutes, until they heard a big bang.
