The room was filled only with the scribbling sound coming from the desk where a man dressed in a subdued grey suit was seated. He was going through one documents after another, in a meticulous order and with certain regality to him.
It was the picture of tranquility; undisturbed, unperturbed. Almost suffocating.
And the silence was stretched for so long it felt consuming, until the door was pushed open with enough force to break the hinge. It opened to reveal a scruffy looking man, with an impossibly big grin on his face.
"You would not believe what happened!" High-spirited, the scruffy man repeated, "You just would not believe what I've found, little master!"
The man seated by the table sighed. It was subtle, but the scruffy man could feel the shift in the air and the drop in temperature. He belatedly realized that he might had just dug his own grave.
It was tense for a full minute, the scruffy man unsure of his fate, until the man placed the pen in hand down, and calmly leaned back. "What did you find, that you need to scream it to me?"
The way he asked, you would know he was annoyed but tried to hold it back.
When in truth, and if you know him enough to be allowed in his office, you would know that he was scrutinizing for every detail while plotting where he could dump your possibly cold body.
The scruffy man shivered. "Hopefully enough that you won't kill me..."
The man in suit raised a brow. "Why would I even kill you?"
Clearing his throat, the scruffy man decided it would be best for him to drop that subject, and moved on to why he was even there in the first place. "So going back to why I'm here. I found a big clue."
"Get to your main point."
"It's a jackpot, man! I hit the jackpot! And I knew you'd fucking love this."
Skeptical, the man in suit gestured for his companion to continue. It wasn't a rare occasion for people to come see him claiming to have a piece of news they thought he might like, but almost always, that wasn't the case. He at least hoped that the man that had practically bulldozed his way in this time wouldn't disappoint him, on the merit of them being long time acquaintance.
"I found a way to get to your most cherished person."
The moment the scruffy man finished the sentences, the man in suit swore it felt like he had a bucket of cold water poured over him. It was both alarming and concerning how it affected him so much, but before he allowed himself to fully believe the information, he held himself in check. "Be aware that if this is another fake news, your end will be a sight for others to take caution from."
It was made very clear, from the frosty air that suddenly filled the room. The scruffy man stuttered a bit before he cleared his throat and tried to speak again. "Don't worry. I still value my life."
"Tell me what you have then." Even though he tried to keep his excitement contained while he listen to and evaluate the credibility of the news, the scruffy man could tell how eager the little master was.
So the scruffy man proceeded to tell the information he miraculously managed to get his hand on. It included a very detailed description of where the place was at, the security around the place, and a rough outline of the inhabitants schedule.
"I'm amazed that you managed to get out of there unscathed, much less to actually bring me this much information."
The scruffy man laughed boisterously. He left the part where he was almost caught, and the fact that he was very, incredibly close to being found by the inhabitant themselves. He was also leaving out a small detail where he was, in fact, injured, while escaping the place. He might have no shred of dignity when it came to living his life, but he at least prided in being able to do his job well. "Just business as usual. So what're you doing next?"
"... I wonder. Acting on this too quickly might result in being discovered so we will lay low for now." The man in suit silently sighed. How he wished he could rush there to see his important person. But as he said earlier, doing so would prove foolish so he would simply have people out for surveillance. He turned to the scruffy man, and asked in disguised hope, "Do you think you can keep watch for a while more?"
The scruffy man shivered. He swore to himself not to get close to the place ever again after experiencing it once but hearing that question from the little boss, he couldn't exactly stand by his self vow. "I can try but this time I really can't promise you much."
The man in suit watched as the scruffy man squirmed uncomfortably under his gaze. When he spoke, it was clearly an order, which couldn't be refused. "That's fine. Try not to get caught, and anything you can bring back will be rewarded."
The scruffy man reluctantly nod and after hearing a few more things from his little master, he made his way out heavily, full of thought on what his little master planned to do with the information he was gathering.
