Ch.7 Cute

It was about 15 more minutes before he showed up at the diner. When he arrived he was wearing a really big light pink sweater with a strange logo and a button up underneath, the collar visible on top. He spotted me and waved. I waved back and when he reaches me I start the conversation. “Hey.” He smiled widely. “Hey dude.” “So let’s just get right in to it. I’m guessing you have no rational explanation?” He shook his head and looked down. “I thought maybe the MIC was on but even if it was, how was he looking exactly where you stood. It just makes no sense, and since both of us saw it, it can’t be a trick… can it?” “Unlikely, I…Did you hear a voice?” “When?” So that’s a no. “Well,” he saw what I did he’ll believe me. “After we were already seeing him stare, I heard what I’m assuming to be his voice in my head. He said, ‘You’re here.’” His face twisted as his brain tried to comprehend what I just said. “What is going on? We’re not going to get anywhere if we don’t talk to the kid, we should meet again tomorrow when you see that other guy.” I nodded, sipping my delicious coffee. We remained silent. I mean what can we say? How do you say calm in this situation? It just doesn’t make any sense and I need answers. “How about we watch a movie?” I gave him a weird look. “You’re serious? After what’s just happened?” He nodded. “Well, yeah. It’s not like we can do anything until tomorrow. Let’s just do something to get our minds off of it. Also, they’re playing a zombie movie tonight and I love horror.” I shook my head in disbelief and slight amusement. What a strange specimen indeed. “Alright…” They made me more pumpkin spice coffee and put in a to-go cup. And Raine got a hot chocolate with the pumpkin spice. We left out the back door where a path leads to a clearing. There were plenty of parked cars with couples inside, a few sitting on blankets with food spreads, and only a couple single people. We took 2 chairs that were available and got comfortable. It was currently 10:41 and the movie starts at 11:00, that’s what you get with a horror movie I guess. We passed the time on our phones, that was until he asked the strangest question. “Wanna play thumb wars? My little cousin makes me play all the time and I need practice.” “Unrelated question, how old are you?” He huffed, crossed his arms and turned away. “I’m 22.” “There’s no way.” He looked at me, then turned away again. “I graduated early because I’m smart or something,” He mumbled the last parts. “And I got this job because I had the highest scores in my team.” “Amazing.” I didn’t mean to say that out loud. We both visibly blushed. “N-No I-It’s not!” We went silent again. I held my thumb out to him. “2 for 3?” He peeked from the corner of his eyes and when he saw his face lit up and he smiled brightly like a child. It’s uncanny how he resembles a little kid. He’s so cute…wait what.
