Biologist Elain Mavka is sent to a foreign planet recently named Miea.  A place where she gets free range to explore, document, and report the findings of site 27-43. Otherwise known as the Mushroom Forest. What seems to be beautiful and mysterious turns out to be just that. Where Elain is the first explorer to make contact with humanoid aliens. Though are they really the aliens when she is on their planet?

Her only company on this journey is young Milo Zephyr, who is still in his training wheels, and Selcouth, a companion she encounters soon after their arrival. Well, them and the strange feeling that they are being watched.

On another side of the spectrum, the older sister (Enya) of her infant brother (Kenton) are looking for a way to survive up in the station effectively named Head Quarters. Her with an assistant's job to keep everything in order on the ship. Then, with no explanation, there was a sudden blaring siren and flashing red lights. A guard she knew, who was a few years older than her, marches them straight to an escape pod. Sending them to a planet they've never known before.

The three of them landed on completely unexplored territory of this planet and it didn't take long for Enya to stumble into a nine-foot monster of a creature. Or, rather, it stumbled into her.

Mori set a bowl of his stew into her hands on the bed, then went to dish himself some. She had sat criss-cross with her brother sitting in her lap. She waited calmly for the stew to cool, no matter how much she wanted to taste real meat for the first time in a very long time. If the large creature was going to kill her, she very much doubted that he’d have put up with them for the hours it took for his stew to be finished. Especially when Kenton has been a little fussy. Thankfully, it began after the ruckus from outside came to an end. None of this monster’s brethren were there to hear a peep from the babe.
