It was strange being cared about from a distance. Before this, no one had cared about Cora since Janelle. But this person she never met was complimenting her craft and encouraging her to succeed in a way entirely different from the harsh "motivation" her father enforced when she was living at home.

That wasn't all either. When her hand was completely overloaded with reminders, he would leave reminders of his own, such as for her to eat something, stretch, or drink water.

She didn't understand. Why would he do something like that? Was he still worried about her because of the things she was writing? Or had she somehow caught his interest for the first time after all these years?
