It was already 5pm and Eli hasn't had lunch yet, he just finished up yet another meeting with his last new client of the day. The case seemed like it was going to take awhile too since he had to find out all the information on the tech that seemed to be copied from the other person.
The two murder cases were open and shut, one was actually innocent from what he could tell while the other did it no doubt seeing all the evidence against him. Eli didn't take those personally since he was just getting paid to work the cases, he took ten minutes to look through them since he had a week until both trails came.
Rubbing his eyes he looked over to Jess desk who already left for the day, she only stays until five before leaving since she doesn't need to stay longer. While looking out there and not working his stomach growled at that moment protesting since he denied it the food that it really wanted at the moment.
He had to live off of that smoothie from the morning, even suffering and watching Jess eat some food that she had bought not offering him even a bite.
"Wow someone is hungry, it is a good thing that I have food." A cheerful voice was heard from his door.
Eli was stunned a moment then looked over, a small smile went on his face without him even noticing seeing who it was, "What are you doing here Adalind?"
"Awe you should be nicer, otherwise I might just take my bag of goodies here and eat it alone in my office." She said while swaying her hips as she walked into the room with a wide smile on her face.
Eli looked at the white bag in her hand before putting down his pen and walking over, she set up the food on the table setting down two white containers. "Well it smells amazing what did you bring."
"Ravioli from Luka's. Have you ever had it?" she said while bringing out some more smaller containers holding sides no doubt.
"Can't say I have. A friend told me about the place but I haven't actually gone there to check out the food." He said while taking the offered plastic fork and knife that she handed him.
"Well then you are in for a treat. Also don't get mad since I didn't know what you like but I bought you pork filled ones since I didn't know your preference." She smiled while opening up another container that had red sauce, and another that had white, "Pick out a sauce and use it on them, I can guarantee that it will make them even more delicious."
He raised a brow while dipping a ravioli in both, bring it to his mouth he tried the red first and couldn't help the moan that escaped his mouth as he ate it. "Holy crap this is amazing!" he said wide eyed while going for the white sauced covered one ignoring Adalind's smile.
"I know right, this is just one of the amazing things on the menu. I went for something tame since I didn't know what you liked, maybe next time I will take it up since you seem to like it a lot." She finished off while stuffing some of her own into her mouth.
"Next time?" he said while raising a brow, his food was now half colored white while the other was red. He even dipped a roll into the sauce letting out another moan as he did so.
She nodded her head speaking with her hand covering her mouth, "Yup, I still owe you two more so I figured today and the next two Tuesday's that I could get dinner or lunch depending on how much work we have."
He looked at her while chewing, he could see a hint of nervousness in her eyes as she said this but he honestly didn't mind, "Sure why not." Since it was only repaying him he wouldn't deny her plus it was just food, it wasn't like he was losing anything by getting free food.
"Great! So what cases are you working on?" she asked while kicking off her high heels and putting her feet under her as she got comfortable on the couch.
Eli shook his head but went into his cases, she also got mad at the Timothy case but smiled when she saw his little smirk when she said that she wouldn't defend him with her all take her first loss. He also learned about her cases which were some corporate ones, he didn't get much into that type of law only once in awhile but it was interesting to hear.
At the moment Eli was lost talking to her that he didn't even realize how well he just fell into this roll, this morning he was freaking out but he was now taking this life like he lived it forever. The memories of his other one was there but since he was living this one he leaned more into it while letting himself believe he was always just this guy.
When he told a joke and Adalind threw her head back laughing he could see why people said she was really beautiful, he thought so too at the moment, "What are you staring at?" she asked over her cup of wine which she took a bottle of from his shelf on the side.
Eli actually didn't like wine but kept them because it looked fancy, "Nothing I am just seeing why people say you are so beautiful. When you laugh there seems to be a glow about you as you do it, that was just really refreshing to see."
He took a sip of his whiskey as she looked at him like a deer caught in headlights, he laughed a little to himself glad that he could shock her. The room went quite as Adalind smiled while looking down, it seemed like she didn't get honest compliments it looks like she was use to more flirting kind.
Which Eli was not doing, this was his first day in this world and he was not even mildly interested in seeing anyone. Instead he wanted to check out his power while also seeing what there was to offer, there had to be more to this world if Wesen were something that was just normal here.
Well normal in the sense that they existed, not in the sense that they were just something the whole world knew about. This seemed to be a pretty closed community that they actually tried to keep humans out of since they saw most as just weak people.
"Thank you." Adalind finally said looking up while smiling over the rim of her cup, she leaned forward refilling while looking back up at him, "So I only know one other Zauberbiest seeing as you guys are pretty rare. Can I ask you two things?"
Eli raised a brow wondering if the other she was talking about was the man she was seeing, it was known that Hexenbiest, hell even Zauberbiest were attracted to strong people. "Sure go ahead, what did you want to ask?" he said refilling his drink also.
"Well first off do you practice Zaubertränke, because the one I know doesn't even try to learn it but ask me or my mom when he needs something made."
"I do. My mother started teaching my when I was young before she passed, she was really good at it and made some really strong potions. When she passed I put even more work into it so that I wouldn't just let her memory die off, it is something I do every now and then to keep up my skills." He said while looking off into the distance, he was really seeing the woman as his mother so he got a little emotional talking about her.
Adalind saw that and pouted a little, "I'm sorry I didn't mean to bring up these emotions for you. Was she a good woman?"
Eli chuckled while taking a drink, "She was the best. You know the mothers on TV who are just so warm and cuddly with their kids? Well she was like that always wanting to know how my day was, giving me hugs just because, and she always made sure to show me how much she loved me."
Adalind smile hearing that, the small smile on his face let her know that he wasn't to sad talking about her but he also didn't seem to get to talk about her a lot. "What about any other family?" she couldn't help but ask.
"None. My grandma took me in after my mother passed but while I was in my fourth year of college she passed away, she was only alive long enough to learn I got into Law school." He said taking another drink since he choked up a little talking about her.
"What do you look like when you Woge?" Adalind asked this was the second thing she wanted to see really it technically was a question. She just wanted to bring him out of the sad memories since she knew better then anyone that those aren't fun to be trapped in.
Eli gave her a grateful smile while looking at her, "Well it is nothing special but here."
When he Woged, nothing changed the only real noticeable difference was that his eyes were now shinning a bright orange unlike the red like most. If she was looking down at his shirt she would see a faint glowing of blue and pink but because she was trapped looking into his eyes she didn't notice it.
Eli also knew this would happen so he didn't have to worry about explaining the tattoo to people, no one had ever noticed it before. All the women he slept with just took it as a tattoo like the others he had and paid no mind to it at all, the only people to really see it were all dead.
Yeah that is right, he even got memories of killing people who tracked him down or were trying to kill him, he was kind of numb to it all now. Just remembering their shocked faces as he killed them----
"Wow those are beautiful." He heard her voice which brought him out of those thoughts.
"Why thank you." he said while going back to normal, he knew a lot of Zauberbiest like Hexenbiest changed faces when Woged but for some reason that was a trait her never got. "So you know about my childhood, or at least how my mother is. What about yours?"
She paused a moment taking a big gulp of her wine, enough so that she needed to fill it up again taking another drink before speaking, "Sorry but if we are going to talk about my mother then I will need that...... She isn't the best while yours sounds like Mother Teresa, mine was the opposite, she was always on me about something. Then even as I got older everything I have done was never good enough for her."
"It just was her constant pushing that got me to feel like even now there is this invisible pressure on my back that won't go away. It is just there you know? I think that is why I have never lost a case, I feel like if I do then I would hear her there nagging about something I could do better." she took another gulp of her drink while looking down.
Eli moved on instinct and was sitting next to her in the next second, he didn't know where it came from but he was holding her while rubbing her back, "Well I think that you are amazing despite that. You are the top lawyer here while also trying to show a male dominated profession that you are more then just a pretty face, so my thoughts? Screw that voice in your head saying you aren't good enough and keep proving it wrong."
Adalind only froze a moment before letting him hug her, the woodsy smell coming off of him was oddly comforting, "Thanks I think that I will go with that." she said while pulling away from him, everything just a little to emotional for a moment there.
Eli smiled not minding her pulling away, they just met today and while not really friends yet he could feel that they were getting close to that. "Alright let's forget about the emotional talk and talk about something fun. If you could own a candy factory like Willy Wonka or get to be a Hogwarts student, which would you choose?"
He saw an appreciative smile come on her face as she answered, "Well while it would be great to be at Hogwarts, I am already a Witch so I am going with owning the best candy factory that I have ever seen."
The two laughed while asking more questions like that, "ELI!!! Drinks tonight, don't bother turning me down because the drinks are.... on........me." Scott bust into the room in the middle of them laughing with a smile but as he looked at the scene more he slowed down looking stunned.
They both turned to the door and Adalind giggled at his expression to seeing her, she set her feet down while climbing back into her heels. "I guess I should get back to my paper work, but I will see you later okay Eli?" she said while looking down at him sending him a wink.
Eli nodded back while watching her walk out, on the inside he was laughing since she left the giant mess for him to clean up alone, "DUDE!!! WHAT THE HELL!!!" Scott's voice brought him back to the man who had just interrupted them.
"Yeah I heard you. Drinks tonight on you I will be there, is Don going?" he said as he started to clean up the mess, he was missing Jess at the moment since she would have done this in a heartbeat.
"Not that dumbass, I am talking about how Adalind Schade was just in here with you and you two were actually laugh. What the hell was that?" he said taking a seat on the couch she just left with an amazed expression.
"Oh that, well she owed me a favor after this morning and offered to dinner as you can see." He said while throwing the last bag into the trash, he took out his phone while taking a pic. 'Text to Adalind: You made me clean up all alone, looks like you owe me another.' he sent her while smiling.
Seconds later he got a response, 'From Adalind- Sorry, your friend gives me the creeps though. Looks like I owe you three Tuesday Lunch/Dinner's huh?'
"Earth to Eli!" Scott shouted from the couch bringing Eli back to him, "What did you help her with that warranted this, I would love the chance for her to buy me dinner."
"Bought her coffee when she forgot her wallet, and gave her a ride to the office." Eli said not tell him about leading her to her office or the now clean up since they guy would bother him and her again just so he could be near her.
"Damn! I should have followed you this morning. *Sigh* Well to late for regrets, let's go around 10 for drinks, Don is also going to meet us there. He is in court at the moment so he couldn't be here." Scott said while standing and walking out the office with his shoulder slumped.
"Sounds good." Eli called after him while checking his vibrating phone.
'From Adalind- Are you allergic to anything? Don't want to accidently kill you because of food, that would be embarrassing. Plus I don't feel like hiding a body. I am allergic to raw Tomatoes by the way cooked is fine tough, just incase you were wondering.'
'To Adalind- No allergies. And there is no way you could hide my body alone since you are so tiny, someone would have to help you. As for knowing your allergies, who said I wanted to buy you food :)'
'From Adalind- :P'
