Main Base

The flight lasted for two hours.

It was comfortable. At least when you didn't include the terrible chairs in the equation. But other than that, watching the stars while sitting in a plane was therapeutic.

Plus, thanks to being awakened, the high altitude didn't even bother me.

After the two hours flew by, the pilot, Jeff, landed the plain safely in a open area at the base.

Just based off how it looked from inside the plane, I was able to tell how much bigger it was than mine. When I got out and walked up close is when the realization really hit me. It was at least two times bigger. Which was saying a lot.

We walked in. Jeff led and I followed closely behind. It was pretty late, so I didn't see many people passing by.

As I made my way through the halls, I saw pictures of men in army uniforms with a ton of medals. I didn't know who they were but they impressed me. 'Must've done a lot to receive them.'

We continued to make lefts and rights throughout our journey to what I thought would be the general's office. And finally, after a good ten minutes of walking, we arrived.

It was an office. 'I was right.'

Jeff knocked causing an old and raspy voice to answer. "Come in."

Jeff opened the door and walked in. I followed closely behind.

"Thank you sergeant. You may leave now."

Jeff straightened up and saluted before walking out the door and closing it behind him.

"Sit Johnathan. I've been wanting to meet you for a while."

I stared at the man. He had short, grey hair, wrinkles, and a grandfatherly smile plastered on his face. However, even then, I felt suffocating pressure. His uniform, like those in the pictures I passed, was filled with metals. I did as the old man said and sat down.

This friendly-looking old man intimidated me, who had faced hundreds of zombies and killed all of them.

"Don't be so tense. Haha, I've only called you here because I was impressed. From your base, you have undeniably done the greatest. Completing dozens of missions perfectly as well as having so much talent, is amazing."

I took a deep breath before responding. Putting a smile on my face, I said, "Thank you, sir. I'll make sure to try even harder to bring back how society was before."

Although I could care less about our old society and how it was in the past, I needed the old man to think I cared about humanity. Only then would I be able to gain more benefits.

"It's reassuring to know young men like you, care so much about humanity."

He flashed a soft smile my way. 'He's charismatic.'

The old man in front of me was incredibly charismatic. He was soft spoken, yet you could still tell he was a powerful man.

"Of course, sir."

"Johnathan, do you know about the two factions that have risen in Ontario?"

"The 'Hero' and 'Free' factions right?"

The 'Hero' faction was made up of people who wanted to help others and save them. They were like the military, but a lot smaller. The 'Free' faction were made up of those who wanted to live in freedom. A world without a government. Most of the time they were called the 'Criminal' faction.

"Yes. They've recently started making a lot more noise and have been stealing supplies from us."

I was a bit shocked. Why would they provoke the army?

"Which is another reason I invited you."

"What can I do?"

"I have put together a team of talented individuals. You were among of the people I chose to in this project."

"I- Thank you, sir!"

At first, my words got caught in my mouth. I was speechless. 'A special squad.'

"How many people in total?"

It took me a minute to gather my thought and ask.

"Five of you. I strongly believe all five of you are the future of this military."

"What would this squad's primary goal be?"

There were already hundreds of squads recovering lost land and wiping out zombies. What was our squad's goal going to be?

He smiled and spoke. "Good question. I've already explained this to the others, so I'll summarize it. If you have any questions take it up with them. Now then. The squads goal would be to intercept people taking supplies, taking out high threat enemies, and overall, just be our ace."

'Taking out enemies. He didn't say zombies, so I should be prepared to kill humans.'

I knew I would have to get ready some day to kill someone. So, I was mentally prepared.

"Alright. It was nice meeting you Johnathan, but I have some meetings to attend. I'll phone someone to bring you to where your squad is."

I nodded and stood up. "Thank you, sir. It was an honor meeting you!"

I saluted and stepped out of the office.

Not even two minutes later, a short, chubby man came by.

"Follow me."

I did as he said and followed. After many lefts and rights, we arrived at a door that said gym.

"Enter through the door and you'll be able to meet your team."

"Thanks."

I turned the doorknob and opened the door.

"Hah- huh?"

I heard the laughter come to a stop and looked towards the group of men sparring.

The four men looked my way before approaching.

I walked forward as well. Meeting in the middle of the gym, we started greeting each other.

A giant man, with short brown hair and a scar on his forehead, introduced himself first.
