Slime Village

A strange blue half-inflated ball of slime has appeared in front of Alex. "Ok, you're 100% most definitely a slime!" While lice usually appear as fragile monsters in RPGs, that may only apply to games. In reality, these things could be the most horrifying things to find, although unlikely, since most herd species are generally harmless.

Alex decided to experiment briefly on the slime in front of him. Using a stick he picked up, he poked the mud. Nothing happened; it only jiggled and bounced once in a seemingly random direction. Seeing this, Alex decided to impale the dirt with the stick; although maybe cruel, in his mind, this is necessary.

Upon impaling the slime's thin membrane holding it together like a balloon, it turned into a small mushy puddle. Looking closer, Alex realized that the pool seemed acidic as any plant life withered away upon touch. Alex couldn't help but wonder how it even functioned, then prepared to leave after determining that they were relatively harmless. Before leaving, though, he noticed that some slimes seemed to be eating up the dead mud, which was enjoyable.

'If slimes exist, doesn't that mean other monsters may exist? Could there be dragons?!' Although Alex may appear to have adapted to the transmigration situation nicely, he was honestly experiencing emotional turmoil. He was having thoughts about his family, friends, classmates, near-death trauma, and many other things. But somehow, maybe because it was too much, his brain entered survival mode where surviving was his only goal alongside collecting information.

'I wonder, was I the only one to transmigrate, or did my classmates also transmigrate to different parts of the world?'

It didn't take long for him to reach the outskirts of the village, but before entering, he decided to watch for about an hour since it was only noon to see if his doubts were valid. Was this a medieval village? Is he actually in a new world? He'll find out via observation.

Alex stayed a fair distance from the town and observed the villagers' movements from behind a hill; it appeared nobody saw him behind the bush he chose. He didn't see anything significant but learned a decent amount during his observations.

He observed their linen clothing, which seems to be the most common of clothing fabrics; he should consider buying matching clothes soon so he won't stick out too much. The common currency also appears to be coin-based, which is to be expected during this time frame. There were also minimal guards, with only padded armor. Overall, exactly what you would expect from a village like this, besides the fact everything looks a lot cleaner than expected.

'If I hadn't seen slimes earlier, I would've thought I time-traveled to the past. Or maybe I did, and slime went extinct without records? No, likely not.'

'I probably look like a noble who got in a scuffle; I may play this card to escape suspicion.' With these thoughts in mind, he entered the town typically. As expected, he drew attention from nearby folk.

"Young Sir! Welcome to our humble village. Can we help you?" A middle-aged man with well-toned skin asked hurriedly towards Alex. Alex was a little surprised but not for the reason one may think usually… 'Oh good! I can understand them!' This worried him since language is different throughout the world and time.

"Thank you, sir; I appear lost and require help with new clothes as they're torn. Do you think I can get help here?" Alex humbly replied but under the act of what he assumes to be a young noble.

'This young boy is of noble descent; just look at those vibrant and well-made fabrics on him! He even looks and sounds like one!' This was the standard line of thought of bystanders.

"Of course! Let me lead you to our inn and get you a meal and clothes." The middle-aged man hastily replied.

"Thank you." Alex has successfully entered the town and will now receive a free meal and clothes. His Oscar-winning acting passed the check of being a young noble.

Like this, Alex was led to the local town inn. 'I wonder if I'll find the stereotypical thugs there… hehe.' He knew this wasn't a fantasy novel as he would read before transmigrating, but he couldn't help but think of such things anyways.

Alex sat at a booth near the corner of the inn and surprisingly received a meal from the house. But while it was free, it tasted worse than that; he should be given money instead. The honey biscuit was solid as a rock; the drink tasted like piss, which Gordon Ramsay would shed tears of blood at. But at least he wouldn't starve.

As Alex was thinking deeply about his food, the middle-aged man returned with clothes with the innkeeper who would show me my temporary residence. But… 'Hey, didn't my act work a little too well? Why are they treating me like royalty?' Even though Alex thought so, he didn't mention anything about it.

Later that day, it was evening. The sunset here was gorgeous here out of Alex's room window. He wore the same clothes as the other commoners, with a green linen shirt, brown linen pants, and new leather shoes.

'I feel a little guilty about taking advantage of their ignorance, but I don't have a choice.' So Alex thought to himself, staring at the sunset.

-Sigh- "Now what? Am I alone? Why did I transmigrate here? Too many questions… too few answers." The only thing Alex did know was he had to keep moving forward. His mind was mentally strained with too many things happening to him today.

'I don't know how to feel, but I know I have a second chance at life right now. So I should pursue my dreams….' He has many ideas of what he could do in the future; he was centuries ahead in the academic knowledge of everyone so far; he could do something as a teacher. But he doesn't have enough knowledge about this world; who knows, maybe it's a world just like in those fantasy novels with swords & sorcery!

This eventually led to his earlier question: why is he being treated so well? It's not like he has anything to prove his nobility, and even if he did, isn't this too much? He doesn't know the answer, so he settled on the idea that this is merely the world's dynamic. But this bothered Alex; what if they expect something of him he doesn't have? 'Let's hope not…'

This was the start of a new story for Alex Idris, and he doesn't know how to feel about it.
