Chapter 422: Freak of Nature, Part 1

"Are you sure you're okay?" Isach asked, his face a blanket of concern.

I finished a second bottle of water and nodded. "Did Ivy say anything to you about your father?"

"No. Why?"

Taking a deep breath, I told him everything she had told me about Rector and her suspicions that he's getting closer to figuring out who I am. "So," I said, shifting on my feet. "I have no idea if she's telling me the truth or if she's just saying that to scare me into breaking the curse sooner."

Isach rubbed his hands over his face and groaned. "I wouldn't put it past my father to do something like that. He likes to test people without them knowing, but it doesn't make sense why he'd suddenly want to test Ivy. Or. . ." His eyes widened.

I waited a moment, but he remained silent. "Or what?" I asked.

"He's not really trying to bargain for his soul back," Isach said, his voice distant as if he were having some sort of out of body experience.
