"What?" I gasped. "No." I shook my head adamantly. "No way. You just got back. You are not leaving again, not to go hunt Dante's sired vampires. That's suicide."

"I'm with Chloe on this one," Whitney said, her expression as fearful as I felt. Though, her concern was aimed mostly at Colt.

"Trent," I said sharply, yanking on his hand until he turned to face me. "You are not leaving me to go hunt vampires. You can't." My voice cracked, and tears pooled in my eyes.

I'd only just gotten him back. I wouldn't survive if he left again. What if something went wrong? What if he was captured again? Or. . . What if he was the one who ended up dead? My stomach recoiled at the thought.

Trent's shoulders sagged with the weight of the entire situation. He cradled my face in his hands and left a lingering kiss on my forehead. "I'm not going anywhere. I promise," he whispered.
