Prison

Being that the Academy was quite literally the best in the world they had to have precautions so that there would be no cheating.

Not only was there no internet to cheat but school was designed in such a way that it was next to impossible to cheat.

The desks themselves had a camera incorporated into them.

This was basically like a screen recorder and everything on the desk was captured by the camera.

There was a program that was encoded to search for any inhuman movement and a full service of people were salaried to watch the cameras from a command center.

There were many other conditions set to keep students in check.

Such as pencils, pens, erasers, and other supplies being given to each student before the test so that they couldn't copy down notes.

There were dozens of teachers that would wander around the classrooms to not only make sure there was no academic dishonesty occurring but also to answer questions.

Although in ways it could be considered a prison, it was simply the way of the world.

Even with all the ways to make sure no one cheated there would rarely be anyone who would even dare to think about cheating.

That was for a specific reason.

In the handbook, there was a rule that states if any student was discovered to have an unfair advantage over another student not only would they be instantly expelled but a marking would go on to their identity.

That is right on their identity.

If that person was to be searched on the web or had a background check a marker would display saying that the person was expelled from Lakewood for academic dishonesty.

This carried on their person for all time.

If they wanted to apply for a job, get a driver's license, sign an official document or get something of importance people would be able to see that the said person was expelled.

People who got expelled would have to live with that mark their whole lives which would effectively ruin any chances of success.

The only way one might get around it would be if they forged documents and created a fake identity but even then 99% of companies require fingerprint identification which would show the mark.

If someone was caught faking an identity it could be fines in the millions as well as decades in federal prison.

So the risk was extremely high as they would not only have their lives completely ruined but also the chance of going to jail for a very long time.

The 1% that doesn't check is guaranteed to pay below minimum wage.

This was because law enforcement officers could show up at any time any day and demand to see an intact fingerprint identifier. If there wasn't one or it was broken the business would be instantly seized by the military.

That's right the fucking military.

The government of course would love to take over a million or even billion-dollar company so if the CEO didn't want that happening all they had to do was make sure that the fingerprint identifier was in good condition.

The 1% of companies that didn't have these risked every day of being taken over so they were often owned by people in poverty.

This in turn meant that the only way for those marked to get a job was to risk prison time as well as work for loose change.

Due to this, why would the thought of cheating ever occur to a student of Lakewood? All it would mean is the destruction of their own lives.

In terms of grades, the school was actually fair.

If a person got below 45% in the class they would fail it.

If they failed three classes they would be expelled.

But this reset every year and it was only for a class which meant that a student could fail multiple tests but so long as they did all their homework, class assignments, and got somewhat good test scores they could get a 46% and be fine.

For some classes, it would be harder to fail than to pass.

It also needs to be noted that if a student is expelled for any other reason than academic dishonesty they won't get marked.

This is the case for those who fail classes, be disruptive, and for Alissa. They don't get marked and can move on with their lives but in their transcripts, it is noted that they were removed from the school.

But if they are accepted in the first place that most likely means that they could get into any other school they wished.

There were actually schools that went around recruiting students who got expelled from Lakewood.

Due to all these implemented policies, the school had it made so that teachers could assign homework without having to worry about students cheating.

Specifically, the question that was just assigned could be easily searched on the internet but because of the precautions, every student had to do it themselves.

This was also the reason why the teacher assigned it days later because although it wasn't exactly hard it was just a lot of repetition which took up so much time.

Leaving the classroom I walked back down the long hallway and continued on all the way back to the front of the building.

Getting held up by the teacher caused me to be lost because I wasn't able to follow behind anyone.

"Tsk, damn that principal for not telling me anything about this school," I mutter, shaking my head as I wander around the school looking for any signs of students. "Couldn't he have at least given me a layout of the school? This is just stupid. I've lost seven minutes and fifty-two seconds of time I could have been eating."

Continuously moving in one direction I looked for the cafeteria but quickly gave up.

'Well, instead of looking for a place that doesn't seem to exist I'll just map out the school myself,' I conclude.
