Ch 09

Day 1:

Time:-3:30pm

Tom and Harry were among a large crowd in a medium sized room on the ground floor of a building in which they broke in through the glass window. It was an 8-storey building whose main front gate was locked from inside by the scared and frightened people.

"We should try moving from here and look for our buddies. God knows where they are! But we can not leave them alone in this situation." Tom said to Harry in anxiety.

"You are right but how can we find them? The moment we put our feet outside the main Gate, those creatures will kill us and tear into pieces. Can't you hear those screaming noises of theirs!" Harry replied warning Tom.

The scary screaming noises of the zombies roaming about the building gates could be clearly heard by everyone inside. It seemed like they were scratching and striking the gates trying to break in, along with scary noises coming out from their dark black throat and were just waiting for a single opportunity to kill everyone present inside the building.

"I know they are out there but we can not stay here. We can not leave our friends out there in so much danger and only look for ourselves. Besides, the way those monsters are thumping at the gate, I fear the gate will not hold for long. We have to do something and get out of here and try to find our buddies." Tom said going restless.

"I understand your feelings buddy! I too want to get out and kill those bastards who have killed so many people. I too want to be with all our friends once again and all these things to come to an end. But what can we do? Those are monsters! We are only humans! We can not hurt them! We can not kill them with our hands! We don't have any weapons! In addition to all these things, they are not one or two anymore, their numbers are growing rapidly." Said Harry making Tom realise everything he said is true.

"Yes, you are right about everything. Still, we should go and see if there is anything in this building that could help us in case those ravenous creatures break in through the gates."suggested Tom.

"Okay, Let's see if we can find something." Replied Harry.

They both looked around. The room was packed with people filled with horror. Even if they tried telling them that they should too go and find something for their own survival. They would not listen. They were all too frightened to listen to anyone. They all were in despair for all the things they witnessed and the calamity that had fallen upon them.

Both Tom and Harry started making their way to the wooden door. The room was so filled that there was hardly any space for anyone to move from one place to another. They started pulling the person ahead of them backwards making some space and then moving ahead one by one. The people were so shocked that they hardly cared being pulled or pushed. After few minutes of struggling, they were at the door.

As soon as they tried opening the wooden door, all the people inside the room started yelling at them, not to open it. They hardly managed to make them understand that they were not going to open the main gate, instead they were just trying to get upstairs.

After the people were satisfied that they won't create any more trouble, they allowed them to go outside the room. Tom slowly opened the wooden door and as soon as both the friends got outside the room, it was again locked from inside by the people.

There were few people sitting at one corner of the stairs with fear as they were not able to get inside to any of the rooms. Tom started getting upstairs and Harry was following him. They were on the 1st floor now. There was nothing to be seen but only closed doors and few scared people trying to hide at every corner of the stairs.

"If those monsters break in through the main gate, hundreds of people more will die and there is nothing anyone can do to stop this or save their own lives."said Tom in despair.

"I don't want to but I will have to agree with you on this. We are nothing more than just meat and blood for those monstrous creatures."replied Harry shaking his head in despair.

"Let's go further up and see if we can find something."said Tom and both started moving further up.

On the 2nd floor..

There were 3 rooms on the floor out of which 2 were locked from inside and the door of the 3rd room was half- broken, probably by the rushing crowd trying to get in. But since the wooden door could not withstand such force, a crack developed and the door broke in half and thus nobody was there in that room as broken door could not save them from those ruthless, hostile and unforgiving monsters.

They stepped into the room through the broken wooden door to see if they could find anything useful. Through the hall area of the room, they entered into a living room and the things for everyday use were still present there. They looked around. They could see couple of chairs, TV, a wooden almirah etc. Harry's gaze fell on a bag which was kept beside the wooden Almirah. He went close to it to see what was inside it. It looked like a sports bag. He opened it and found 3 baseball-bats, some balls, helmets, few gloves etc. He took out 2 bats from it and gave one of it to Tom as it could help them in their self-defense upto a certain extent.

Then they walked through the living room and reached the dining area of the room. They quickly went to see if they can find something to eat as they were extremely hungry since they had not eaten anything after their breakfast in the hotel. There was a refrigerator kept in one corner of the kitchen area. Tom quickly opened it. Luckily, there were few packets of chips, water-bottle, few cans of coke. They immediately had some water and looked around to find something they can put these things to carry. They could not see anything. Tom suddenly realised there was a sports bag in the living room. He instantly ran up to the bag, emptied it and brought it near refrigerator. They quickly filled the bag with all the food items and water which was there in the refrigerator and sealed the bag.

Suddenly, they heard a loud thudding sound coming from downstairs. They immediately went to a side window and looked down. They were stunned and filled with terror at the sight below. The main front gate of the building was broken and fallen down on the ground and could not withstand the continuous and ever increasing huge force of the blood craving ravenous monsters. The zombies were storming in through the fallen gate and seeing this sight, it got all darkened before their eyes. They were unable to understand what to do next and knew they had not much time left to do something otherwise they too would be joining those creatures very soon.
