Pequi

The battle sent everything inside the water away!

The buero attacked with all he had, moving his thorny tentacles toward the other monster's head. The latter responded to this attack by moving his arms against these tentacles, causing his claws to pull out several of those tentacles. Red blood splattered the water, driving the surrounding fish crazy. These little creatures happily devoured these pieces of meat!

The buero showed no signs of stopping his attack, however.

The snake-headed monster opened his mouth and swam towards buero, the latter not caring and advancing in a similar fashion. Seconds later, the two began to fight more ferociously.

Tentacles and claws danced.

With each blow they exchanged, this dance floor grew redder and redder.

The fish audience watched the show up close, happy with the state of this dance floor.

The colossal monsters made all the surrounding water vibrate, killing fishes in the process.

Even though he was far enough away not to be directly caught by one of those jagged tentacles or sharp claws, Trevor showed no signs of happiness. The boy's face was as purple as beets.

The pressure he felt was enormous, being uncertain about his surroundings didn't help. Everything was quite dark, the little light was just enough to illuminate the giant body of the monsters that were killing each other. Besides, his partner was as useful as a tadpole's tail was to an adult frog.

'I'm going to die like this...?'

Trevor's conscience was on the line.

Still, he didn't want to die without finding his father.

The amount of trials Trevor had suffered was not small.

Suddenly something changed just as Trevor was about to pass out!

The buero moved one of his jagged tentacles against the gray trunk!

This caused the latter to be launched upwards like a rocket coming out of the atmosphere!

Within moments, Trevor found himself coming out of the water only to fall back into it seconds later. Tsunami water began to pour into the gray trunk, but Trevor had already jumped out of it before he had a chance to drown.

The lad wasted no time and used all his strength to cling to that trunk. His legs wrapped its rough surface, while his only remaining arm was tucked into one of the trunk ledges: serving as constant support in case one of his legs slipped.

Trevor saw the gray trunk turn over several times, he felt like a barbecue skewer on a coals: with the difference that instead of fire, it was the water that was used to torture him!

The trio of human, guara and trunk were swept downstream by the tsunami. Their speed was incredible, and Trevor finally managed to see his way out of this hellish ordeal when the water's speed began to slow. Soon, the water stopped flowing and calmed down.

Trevor sighed, his skin color returning to its natural hue. The green-eyed youth had been helpless all along in that clash of titans, but somehow managed to escape.

'You are indeed Lady luck's lover!' The guara spoke as he shook his head up and down. 'We were supposed to die there at least twice, but here we are: breathing and kicking without having lost any arms or legs in the process.'

Trevor said nothing, the mention of the losses making the young man's frown twitch. Not to mention that his mighty weapon is now gone to limbo, the food and water were also gone. However, something even more serious was that he got lost, which meant that he would have no way of recovering half of the food he buried in the guara lair or now for sure where he actually was.

Trevor put his one hand to the middle of his forehead and rubbed his eyelids with his fingers, providing some relief to that part of his body that burned like spoiled pepper. The amount of water that hit his eyes was too much to be measured in numbers.

After that, his green eyes were finally opened. The landscape of the new environment loomed before him: gnarled trees, red terrain, dead leaves, pale brown water, and broken branches made up this scene. It turns out that all of this was nothing new for the duo.

Or rather, this was almost nothing new for the pair.

Trevor was able to see a tree of medium height, he judged this thing to be between 5 to 6 meters tall (16/19 feet). The brown branches that extended from its gnarled trunk looked nothing unusual compared to other trees present in the subtropical plains of the Central Plateau.

There were yellow flowers all over the structure of this ordinary looking tree.

Green berries decorated its branches like christmas balls on a Christmas tree.

'This…!' The boy's eyes widened as memories of the past assaulted his mind, making his heart beat faster. In these memories, Trevor found himself at the age of 9, with his next birthday just hours away.

"Hey, don't push me!"

"I didn't push you!"

"Nonsense! I'll tell the teacher everything!"

"So I'm sorry, I didn't mean to bump into that disgusting shoulder of yours!"

"Humph. You really are a chicken. And you still claim to be the son of a doctor? Where did you get that courage? From the same garbage that gave birth to trash like you in this world? Hahah-!" A steel-hard fist slammed into the laughing boy's jaw, twisting the boy's mouth several degrees in the opposite direction of that punch.

The boy who had his jaw punched fell to the ground like an empty rice sack, rolling down in succession across the greenish grass on the ground and soiling his yellow and white robes. The boy who initiated the punch looked coldly into the face of the idiot who dared speak of his mother.

His finger bones slammed into his enemy's jaw bones and crushed all the soft tissue between them, causing that part of the boy's hand to turn purple like eggplant.

"What's going on here?! I left you two alone for less than two minutes!" A low voice, angry and full of dissatisfaction flooded the ears of those who were present at the place.

"Glaceno!"

"Trevor!"

Next, the figure pushing the air from her lungs with force appeared before them both. The first was still lying on the grass: his clothes were all dirty, and the second had a look full of pain and sadness.

"You idiots! The ceremony will take place in a few hours! I swear I'll rip the skin and tendons off both of you if the principal complains about anything!" His voice was charged with fury like storm clouds, every phrase this person spoke would make the air vibrate as if they were actually the cry of thunder.

"Pardon, Professor Jositha!"

"Pardon, Professor Jositha!"

Both boys spoke in unison, causing Professor Josiah's frown to relax a little. The improvised boys' choir was kneeling in front of Josiah, letting the latter's anger grow even weaker than before.

"You two are so imprudent, do you really want to miss the most important day of your lives? Do you want your dear teacher Jositha to be embarrassed in front of Headmaster Aivalon?" Jositha spoke seriously, his face showing a cold pokerface expression.

"I don't want any of this for you, Professor Jositha!"

"Professor Jositha, your greatness will definitely impress Director Aivalon!"

Whether it was Glaceno or Trevor, neither of them bothered to say they cared about this important day. The two acted like professional bootlickers, leaving no room for Professor Jositha to punish them severely.

"Okay, you two learned your lesson. Can I expect you two not to do anything until the time of the ceremony?" Professor Jositha looked at both of them with relaxed eyes. The storm in his heart had calmed.

"Do not worry!"

"Yes, me and Glaceno are old acquaintances!"

The pair even hugged each other, sticking shoulder to shoulder!

Both had similar expressions: eyes closed and cheeks curved upwards!

"It's good to see that you can also get along when needed. Listen to me, I really don't want to have to see your faces again covered with anything other than sacred water."

"We understand."

"Yes, we will make our best teacher Jositha!"

The professor in question nodded and left without looking back.

The boring teacher is finally gone! What followed were two boys staring at each other with eyes filled with hate. Neither Trevor nor Glaceno said a word, as they both just continued the act while rubbing their respective aching body parts.

Trevor used his left hand to massage his fingers. Glaceno used his right hand to do the same with his jaw. The impasse between them was broken when Trevor snorted and turned his back to leave.

The white-haired boy looked at Trevor's figure dwindling in the distance, his mouth not moving. Glaceno just snorted coldly as did Trevor and left, disappearing into the distance between the trees of this green garden.

Trevor also exited the garden, entering a white hallway made of marble. Both sides of this hallway were tall, three times his height. The huge yellow carpet was what attracted the most attention in this hallway: it started somewhere that Trevor couldn't see and ended in another that Trevor couldn't see either.

The black-haired boy hurriedly marched across this yellow carpet for minutes, before coming across a wooden door. Trevor didn't wait and pushed the knob down, but despite his best efforts, the door didn't open. Trevor then smacked his lips and took from his pocket the bunch of keys that held the key capable of unlocking this door in front of him.

Trevor didn't show happiness on his face when the door opened, in fact it was the other way around. When the noise of the door slamming echoed, Trevor hurled himself straight at the objects and furniture that made up this room.

Chairs fell.

Frames tore.

Tables toppled.

Glasses exploded.

Trevor was feeling an immense fury!

No matter how much he hit, punched, kicked, the fury didn't run out!

Tears fell from his furious face, but little by little his blows were losing strength. Trevor's breathing was ragged, but he decided to stop venturing his fury on these objects to wipe the tears from his eyes. His shivering greens then turned to see the mess his anger had caused.

Chairs were lifted.

Tables were raised.

Frames were fixed.

Glasses were cleaned.

Trevor was sweating like there was a faucet above his head, his neck was so bright that part of the images of this newly destroyed room were reflected in this sweaty part of him. Trevor then landed on his butt on the bed, followed by his back and head resting on the soft mattress.

"I overreacted..." The boy sighed for the thousandth time, he then pulled the blanket closer to him and grabbed a fluffy pillow. His grip on that pillow was firm, but his eyes were blank and distant. His mind was charged with complex emotions that multiplied: regret, nostalgia, sadness, anger, impotence.

His murmurs continued without pause.

"...Dad wouldn't want me to make such a mess on the day of the ceremony either."

Trevor broke off his mutterings to look at the clock on his bedroom wall.

The ceremony would take place within a few hours, he better prepare himself to be in top form for this event. After all, it would be at this ceremony that the children's curriculum would be designated based on their school performance.

To be a doctor like his father, he studied until his brain melted.

To be a doctor like his father, he failed to make many friendships.

To be a doctor like his father, he didn't have the luxury of crying for his mother.

At this momentous ceremony, Trevor would step up on stage with his head held high and honor the people who have always loved and supported him!

"I'll make them proud!"

"So this is a pequi tree… interesting."

Trevor smiled as he looked at the tree with yellow blossoms, laden with various green pequi fruits.
