The mysterious transfer student

"This is a bit exotic even for your dad." Lilly said, squatting down to eye the omelette rice I had pulled out of my bag.

"No, I put it in the plastic bag."

"You went to the effort of making omelette rice in the morning and then put it into a plastic bag?"

"No, I didn't make it… It hurts to eat, so I'm going to throw it away."

"Really?! What on earth did your dad put in it?"

"That's not…" I really didn't know how to explain it, so I put the bag in a bin as we passed it and decided to change the subject. "Do you know when the next student council meeting is going to be?"

"Don't worry, there's none this week. That reminds me, I dropped off the new transfer student at your form this morning, but I'm guessing you didn't get a chance to meet her."

Wait, is she talking about who I think she's talking about? "Is there more than one transfer student?"

"Not as far as I know."

"Was her name Steph?" Lilly looked at me with a puzzled expression. Trust me, I'm as confused as you are.

"I don't understand, are you saying you've met her?"

"She bumped into me and Rachel this morning."

"What were you doing with Rachel?" Lilly appeared slightly annoyed. Unlike me, she is usually good at keeping her emotion in check, but this showed how much she disliked Rachel. "Was she the reason you were late?"

"No, that was my fault. Please, don't blame Rachel." Lilly didn't seem convinced. "A-anyway, Steph was acting really strange."

"What did she do?"

"Well, she asked me to be her friend." The moment I said that, Lilly halted and tilted her face down, making it darken and become difficult to read. "L-Lilly, are you okay?"

"What did you say in reply?"

"No." She seemed to relax a little when she heard that. "I-I need to go."

"Okay..." I watched her walk off. Wait a minute, I didn't ask her what I was supposed to do. Should I go to the nurse's office? Where were we heading anyway? Lilly isn't a fan of explaining herself, but it did look like she was taking us to the roof.

* * *

When Lilly became student council president, and I became her vice, the only things we got for the job were two very old keys – one of them was for the student council office, but the other – nobody knew. The previous student council members had left the school, and they didn't appear to have left any clues to what the key did. We forgot about the key until, one day last week, I went up the wrong flight of stairs for my art lesson and came across the blue door that I am now standing in front of.

The strange thing about this door is that it is where a classroom should be, but it isn't a classroom. It can't be because classroom doors have to have windows on them because of safeguarding, and this door didn't. The moment I saw this door, I had a feeling that this was the door that we were looking for, and I was right.

The only problem now is that Lilly has the keys, so I'm going to have to wait. Well, never mind. I sat by the door, popped open my lunch box and took a bite of my sandwich. This didn't hurt quite so much to eat.
