Chapter 19

She walked away with a fake smile gracing her face. They sat on the table Rose and I had prepared. I served everyone, well everyone except the witch seated beside Etienné–Meredith.

"You didn't serve me" she complained

"Oh.....sorry I didn't see you there, "I said flatly and sat on my seat.

"I still haven't been served, "She said glaring at me.

"The food's closer to you and I don't want to stand up so------" I trailed off, expecting her to get the message–I wasn't going to serve her.

She frowned and Rose and I tried to suppress our laughter.

"So what brought you to Paris?"Rose asked me

"Well-----" I started

"St Clair can you feed me," Mer asked Etienné while secretly looking at me.

Did she expect me to be jealous? If yes, then she failed. Terribly

"I'm here to supervise a construction," I said turning my attention back to Rose.

"St Clair focus"Mer whined, raising her voice

"What now?" I muttered under my breath and turned my attention to the couple sitting across the table.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to"Etienné apologized.

"This is designer St Clair, my favorite dress" she complained

Etienné had spilled some wine on her clothes. Why would you wear your favorite dress to an occasion you don't care about?

"You could just wipe it off, "I said in a sweet but taunting voice, trying to annoy her.

It was epic seeing the look on her face. Oh, how I wish I could take a picture, frame it, and then hang it on a wall.

"It's okay, I shouldn't have yelled"Mer apologized to Etienné. I couldn't sense the remorse in her tone. We continued eating.

"Time for dessert" Rose announced when I finished helping her to clear the table.

"I eat a lot but if I take anything else I might burst, "I told her

"It's chocolate pudding. Etienné said you loved chocolate"

So he remembered me telling her about my love for chocolate. A warm feeling erupted in my chest.

"I guess I could make a small exception," I said with a smile

She served the dessert and it tasted better than it looked.

"It's fantastically delicious if I am permitted to use that word"

"I do hope you are enjoying Paris, it is a beautiful country"

"Of course, I am, except I didn't expect to see some certain kind of people but that's life for you, "I said referring to Etienné.

"Meredith didn't like Paris at first," Rose said.

"Yes but then I fell in love with St Clair and he fell in love with me" she paused, looking dreamily at him. "Nothing or no one can tear us apart not even wannabes like you," she said with venom, anger, and dislike lacing her tone.

"It's not like I would try, "I said and returned to my food.

We finished eating and Etienné and I cleared the tables, he led me to the kitchen to help him wash the dishes.

"So my mum likes you," he said as I put the last of the dishes in the sink.

"What can I say I'm a very likable person" I answered with a shrug and a hidden smile.

"Sure you are" he laughed

"Are you trying to insinuate that I'm not likable?"I asked, narrowing my eyes at him

"I never said that, "he said with a sly smile.

I raised an eyebrow at him.

He laughed

"Take it however you want, it's your choice," he said when I remained silent

I splashed water from the sink on him.

"I wouldn't do that if I were you," he said with a smile.

"Oh really, "I said and splashed water on him. We continued our water fight for a couple of seconds until we called it a truce. We finished washing the dishes and decided to see who could put the dishes back in their place faster than the other. As I was about to put the last of the plates onto the shelf. I bumped into someone and the plate flew. Luckily, St Clair caught and winked at me.

"Don't you have eyes?" a voice a recognized all too well asked.

I bumped into Meredith. I mentally groaned at my misfortune

"I wish I didn't at least I would be saved from the horror of seeing you every single time," I said with a mocking smile.

"What did you say?" she asked

"You heard me loud and clear. I wouldn't like to think you're deaf or are you?"I asked tilting my head.

"Name your price," She said suddenly

"For what?"I asked confused

"To leave St Clair alone," she said

I laughed. Oh, that's what she was on about.

"Unlike you, I have integrity and self-respect, you can't buy me off, "I told her, disgust evident in my voice.

"Why are you bent on ruining us?" she asked

"Like I said I have integrity and self-respect, I don't try to sabotage people's relationships. I'm not trying to ruin you" I paused. "If I was trying to break you up, don't you think it would have happened ages ago," I said and left her with a dropped jaw.

Her insecurities were getting the best of her and somehow she seemed okay blaming them on me.

I walked my way back towards the kitchen where Etienné was busy laughing with his mother.

"You're a relationship wrecker Krystabel"

And just like that, a dam was broken
