Suddenly, through the calmness of the night, the howling whistle of the wind began to rage behind Mia. Startled by the unexpected noise, she twisted her body and thrust her rapier forward in a quick motion. The blade passes through the empty hole created by my stomach which had taken form of the wind just before her rapier pierced my body.
"What do you want?" She gazed up and met my silver white eyes that shone brilliantly through the darkness.
"I would like to talk." I said, my expression remained indifferent.
"Not interested." She muttered, placing her rapier back into its sheath before turning to walk away.
I activated [Wind Mimicry] once more, vanishing and materializing in front of her path. "It is not a matter of whether you are interested or not, I advise you to hear me out."
"You're so pushy, I said fuck off, asshole." She raised a middle finger before walking away again.
Hold fuck, she really hates my guts. Did I damage her pride somehow?
Of course, I didn't give up and I once again moved and appeared in front of her path with my [Wind Mimicry].
"Do you really wish to go that badly?" Mia asked as she unsheathed her rapier.
"I am not giving up until you decide to hear me out," I stated.
"Then I guess we have our answers," she said while getting into her stance.
I knew so damn well it would end up like this.
[The Great Surge - Limit Breaker]
Her body began to glow as her speed increase to a dangerous height, however…
[Absolute Probability Manipulation]
The world soon dyed white as it came to stop. I felt my consciousness and soul suddenly detaching from my body. And soon, the feeling omnipotent enveloped by mind.
I was absolute, not a single being can defy me.
Distortion raged for mere moments as I tilted the scale of probabilities.
Mia charged forward with her rapier in hand, however, her expression morphed into that of a surprise one as she realized her Skill was not working.
"Your Skill have been canceled," I said, enduring the slight pain assaulting my mind as I casually dodged her blade and caught her hand, holding her in place. "Just listen to me for a few minutes, we don't have time." I insisted, meeting her amethyst colored eyes.
"I said I'm not interested, let go, fucker." She glared at me.
"Haa…" I heaved a tired sigh, my voice became that of whisper, "I didn't want to agitate you like this, but, if you do not wish for both of us to lose our lives, then listen to my words."
"What…? Losing our lives..?" She asked in a confused tone.
"I'll have you witness it for yourself, but essentially, this 'hunting activities' was a trap from the very start." I slowly let go of her hands, it seem that she was willing to listen to me now. Maybe I should've done that from the start.
"A trap?" She muttered.
"If you don't know what the definition of a trap is, basica-."
"I know what a trap is, asshole, I was asking what kind of trap?" Mia said, cutting me off.
"I'll have you see it for yourself, now, put this over your head, it's type of concealment artifact." I gave her the Cloak of Vanishing.
"Concealment artifact? Where did you get the money to buy it?" Mia asked.
"Stole it from Shin, now stop asking for details and put it on, it probably has his scent on it, that's already enough to make you happily put it on, yes?"
"Y-You! Shut up and show me alrea-" I quickly covered her mouth to stop her outburst.
"Be very quiet, just put in on I'll show you what I was talking about…" I warned before taking out my dimensional storage . "Also, put your phone in this dimensional storage."
"Why? What if you do something to me?" Mia refused.
To that, I couldn't help but facepalmed myself, pinched the bridge of nose, and heaved a hopeless, disappointed sigh. "Holy mother of shits, please, stop with the delusion, I feel sorry for you that you honestly believe I could get it up in front of you."
"…"
"Your location can be exposed through your phone, putting it in a dimensional storage would allow you hide your location," I explained.
"Fine," Mia sighed, then she proceed to silently put her phone into the dimensional storage and put on the Cloak of Vanishing.
"Oh right," I suddenly said as I took out her phone, turn the screen facing her, her face reflect off the front camera unlocking her phone through face id recognition.
"Hey, what are you do-"
"Shh," I put my finger on my lip as shush her up and began to work. "If we don't do this, we may be suspected."
"Can't you explain to me what the hell are you going on about?" She asked.
"I told you, you'll see it eventually, now follow me, silently," I emphasize the last word in my sentence while putting her phone back into the dimensional storage, earning a nod from Mia. "Right, I forgot, hold on to my shirt, you might lose traces of my existence." I said as I held out a part of my shirt which she hesitantly grabbed.
I activated [Silent Wind - Concealment] and began to walk to the destination that I had chosen earlier, it was far enough that we could observe the original campsite and I was positive it was outside the range of Delmud's detection, but still, we had to be careful.
It was only a few minutes walk and luckily my concealment ability was able to hold out till then.
"All right, sit down." I said while sitting down behind a bush, observing the campsite, where Owen was sitting there, silently.
Mia soon sat down next to me trying to see what I was looking at. "The campsite?"
"Hey, Young Mistress Mia," I whispered.
"What is it?" She whispered back still eyeing the campsite to see what was wrong with it.
"Under any circumstances, do not, and I repeat do not do anything that may expose our location," I said, in which she nodded. "I'll explain further, oh right, but first, could you share the concealment artifact?"
"What?" She quietly exclaimed, "was this whole set up so that you can a move on me?"
I heaved another disappointing sigh, "just scooch over and give me some space under the concealment cloak, my concealment ability won't be able to hold out much longer."
Listening to the graveness in my voice, Mia quickly made some room under the Cloak of Vanishing and I swiftly slip in the transparent blanket.
Wow, what kind of situation did I get myself into? Hiding inside a blanket which happens to conceal the existences of whatever is under it with one of the most cutest girl in the novel, Worthless Honor.
But do I give a fuck? Absolutely not. Why? Mainly because my life is literally being fucking endangered right now.
"S-So, e-explain, what is the point of this," She said, avoiding my face.
But, to this, I sent her a look of confusion and concern. "Why the fuck are you getting flustered now of all time? Didn't I say that we can lose our lives if we're not careful?"
"Shut up, it's still nerve racking, I've never been this close to a guy before, ugh our bodies are practically touching at this point." She retorted, trying to keep her volume as low as possible.
"Pfft-… I don't even know if I should call that adorable or pure stupidity." I said, trying to fight the urge to laugh. "Probably the latter to be honest."
"Y-you, now you're h-hitting on me?" She exclaimed.
"My god," I heaved a disappointed sigh for the nth time today. "Didn't tell you to stop with your delusion?"
"Then, how the hell are you supposed to expect to react when you do something like that? Y-You know what? Forget it, get to the point." Mia sighed, she probably gave up on me at this point.
"All right, please calmly take what I'm about to tell you and do not do anything that may expose our location," I warned her once again and she gave me an affirmative nod. "I believe Owen Llewelyn is a demon." As I whispered those words, Mia's eyes went wide, I quickly covered her mouth to prevent the possibility of her shouting out in surprise.
"Do not make a sound and hear me out first," I continued . "When I was training my concealment technique yesterday in the training facility, I happened to overheard him reporting about some plan related to Hunting Club and some type of demonic seed or something, it seemed that he wasn't aware that I was there," I bullshitted my words as naturally as flowing water. "However, when I heard of something related to demonic seed, I remembered something my grandpa, who was an old war hero, once told me about. He told me about a supposed 'parasite' seed that made appearance in the war, over a century ago, that have the ability to slowly corrupts a human into become a mindless demon, so if what my grandpa said is correct, whatever the hell is going to happen here is not going to be pretty."
"T-then what should w-we d-do…" Mia spoke, her voice became increasingly shaky.
"We can't do anything, Owen is much stronger than us, for now, we can only observe. This Cloak of Vanishing was brought with this sole purpose."
"Then what about the other? We have to save them."
"As I said, there's nothing we can do, we can only observe." I can see the hopelessness began to sink into her eyes. Therefore, I guess I could only say one thing that may ease her anxiety. "Don't worry, Shin can heal them, our job right now is to observe. Right, I've also already sent him a message through your phone in which we could use as alibi, so we should be safe to observe for now."
—-
"Hmm… that's a shame, she was quite the big fish as well," Owen muttered as he looked at the text he had received from Mia Verlice.
[— I'm sorry for the late message, but Jin Shinpei was poisoned by a grade 6 Mana Beast Violet Walker, I had to quickly take him to the hospital to receive an antidote and I'm taking him back to the dorm right now. I may not be able to return to the hunting ground, please feel free to return without us.]
'Their locations seem to have disappeared from the map, so I guess they did escape the hunting ground…'
"But no worries I guess I would have more opportunity to do so." If there was one thing Owen had learnt from fulfilling his purpose for years was patient. Everything needed to fall places, he must not rush things.
"Ah, it seems everyone is on time," He revealed a gentle smile as he noticed the many groups of approaching students.
"Is everybody here?" After waiting a couple minutes Owen did the attendance. "Great, it seems everybody is here. Now let's start by talking about what we hunted," shall we?"
[Drowse Emanation]
Owen silently listen to the student's enthusiastically talking about their achievement with a smile on his face.
Slowly but sure, the student each began to fall into a deep slumber, and after few minutes every single one of the student lost their consciousness and collapsed onto the ground.
"How exhilarating to see their sleeping faces, just how useless and powerless they are, unable to do anything under this state of slumber always excites me…" Owen began to take out a plastic bag that seem to be filled with dark violet color fruit that seemed extremely rotten.
—-
"They all collapse…" Mia muttered quitely.
"No, they seem to be in state of deep slumber."
We continued to watch as Owen took out a small rotten, dark violet colored fruit from a plastic bag.
"You feel it, don't you?" I asked.
"Demonic energy…"
Owen then proceed grab the body of a sleeping boy and carved open a small hole in his stomach.
"Is he going to kill them..?" Mia nervously whispered as she tightly held the sleeve of my shirt. I could practically feel the slight shivering in her movement.
"No, it would be foolish of him, it seem that his purpose is just to plant that demonic seed into the students and wait for it sprout."
We watched silently as he craved a hole and place the seed within the students stomach, just above their mana core, before closing the hole with what seemed like a Mana Technique.
That 15 minutes felt like hours of just pure, utter disgust. It made my stomach churned as each seconds went by. I was not disgusted by the gruesomeness, I was imagining the suffering the seeds would bring, how much lives and futures had been lost due them, the fate of those whose seed had fully sprouted. Though, I had read about it in the novel and thought it was quite messed up, now that these had became 'real humans' for me, it felt disgusting, sickening; yet, I gritted my teeth and continued to observe.
If I don't get used to it now, I would only be a burden to Shin in the future.
I wanted to implant my daggers into that bastard's runes and give a painful death, however I was not strong enough to do so. I wanted Shin to personally slice that bastard into a thousand pieces, yet it was not the ideal decision at moment in our situation as that would alert the Demon King much more quicker of a possible threat among the ones associated to PRSM Academy once he realized a vice-general demon and a demons in which he personally sent for an important purpose to be killed on the same day.
Though I did made it seem like a simple mission, it was much more harder once I had to face against my own powerlessness.
Mia was progressively getting more anxious and scared as time went by, it wouldn't even be surprise if she were to breakdown at this moment.
"If you can't take it, don't look. Here, turn around." I said in a gentle tone. Being careful not to startle her, I slowly shifted my sitting position under the Cloak of Vanishing so that she could rotate her body and gaze into the darkness of the forest, which most likely felt much more calming.
I heard Mia silently sobbing but I pretended to not notice. She was gripping my arm tightly, so much so that her nails were practically digging into my skin causing blood to seep out. I endured it and continued to watch the scene in front me.
"J-Jin… I'm scared…" Mia was someone who may have witness death a few times in her life, this world was a world where only the strong survives. The reasons why she was shivering so much at the moment was because she possessed a trauma related to a Demon Seed and it was the reasons why she wanted to attend PRSM Academy was because she wanted to get over her trauma and take revenge.
"It's going to be okay, just try and stay quiet. And, sorry for bringing you into this but I don't think you would've believed me if you didn't see for yourself." I whispered.
"No… you were right, I probably would've not believed you…" Mia whispered back. "Thank you…"
A while after Owen was done implanted the Demon Seed into the last student, the members all woke up, the seem like they did not remember a single thing that had occurred, judging by the confused look on their faces.
From what I see, I assume he really was making up some excuse about the Dreaming Wisps and how they should get out of this forest quickly, as soon, the club left the campsite and darkness prevailed within the forest once again.
We waited for 10 minutes or so, making sure they have completely left before taking off the Cloak of Vanishing. I let out breath that I had been holding in for a while, letting my anxiety and tension get washed away by the coldness of the night.
"Let's wait for another half an hour before we start returning…" I suggested. "It would be best if we try to avoid the possibilities of running into them as much as possible…"
To my suggestion, Mia mindlessly nodded, her hand still gripping my arms tightly.
"Uhm, Young Mistress Mia, can you let go of my arm, I think I may be dying of blood lost.." I said as I nervously looked at the blood, created by Mia sharp nails, running down my forearm. However, she refused to budge.
"This is kind of romantic, a cute girl holding onto my arm in the middle of a dark forest, it's making me blush." She still refused to let go.
"Haa… take your time," I heaved a sigh as silence descend on to us.
After a few minutes Mia suddenly spoke up, "you know, I think that the same demonic seed sprouted inside my mother, I remembered it clearly, she went mad as her skin slowly change pitch black, like that of a demon, before getting killed by my dad right in front of my eyes when I was only 10…"
"I see, sorry for your lost, it must've been rough…" that's right, her trauma and her desire for revenge came from the death of her mother, it was later found out that Owen, or I guess Delmud, was behind it as well.
"When I was looking at those students, I couldn't help but think of how they may end up like my mother, or maybe even worst…" She softly said.
"I really am sorry for having you witness that, but, I ju-" I muttered before being interrupted by Mia.
"No, you saved me and you were there for me the entire time, you just did what you had to do, and for that I thank you."
Then, there once again silence between us.
"I bet you wished it was Shin who was sitting here right now." I cracked a joke trying to lighten up the mood.
"It doesn't matter who is here right now, I'm just…. Ah… sorry, I'm just really tired right now." She muttered as she suddenly slid her arm through mine, interlocking both our arms together, and rested her head on my shoulder.
"What are you trying to pull here?" I asked a little bit taken aback by her odd behaviors. "I'll warn you now, you're really not my type."
"Oh please, quit with your delusion, I feel sorry for you that you really are thinking that I'm trying to get with you." Mia chuckled. "I just want to rest right now, so don't move."
"Fuck.." she really just beat me at my own game.
After waiting for exactly 30 minutes, we began to walk the 1 hour 30 minutes back to the station and as expected there wasn't a single trace of the Hunting Club anywhere.
We then dragged our tired bodies onto the train and slumped down onto the seats, waiting for the train to take us back to our original station in which then we can head back to the dorm.
The train was quite empty with just us riding it, it was not surprising as it was roughly 9:30 p.m. by now.
"You were right, I wished it would've Shin who went with me…" Mia suddenly said.
"How rude." I burst out into a light laughter. "Say, why do you hate me so much anyways?" I genuinely was curious.
"That's my question, why were you being such a stingy asshole in the first place?"
"It's just in my nature," I proudly declared. "But, you know, you should really be upfront about your feeling with him."
"Please, I already tried a couple of time these past days, he's too dense." Mia sighed.
"Oh? So you're admitting your feelings towards him?" I smirked.
"Yeah, to be honest, I don't feel like hiding anything from you anymore." Mia said. "I think your 'giving no fucks' mindset is contagious, Jin."
"My god, that sounded strangely unnatural and awkward, in all honesty, you calling me 'bastard' sound much more pleasurable." I cringed at her attempt to use my name in a sentence
"Well, that's more of a reason why I would use it more from now on, Jin." She chuckled.
"Anyways, back to what I was saying, you should be more upfront, just make your moves, he's not dense, it's just that he's most likely focusing on more important matter right now." I advised. "You know, Shin really has a soft spot for you."
"…"
"…"
"…" her cheek went slightly red and her mind went blank. She's probably planning out the rest of her life with him in her mind right now.
"Pfft-… your flustered expression really is quite adorable, but still, you look stupid, I could see some of the impure thought running through your mind…" I tried to suppress my laughter.
"Oh fuck off, how about you? Do you have any other mood other than being an asshole?" She retorted before a faint smile appeared on her lip.
"…Though I said I wish it would've been Shin, I'm glad you were here today, Jin, so thanks again."
"My pleasure, Young Bitchtres-, my apologies I meant Young Mistress." I stuttered over my words. "And also stop with the sweet talk, it's really creeping me out."
"Asshole," She smiled. "But, I guess, you're a bearable asshole."
"What? Was that supposed to be a compliment? And also stop it, I'm not joking, it's really creeping me out at this point."
"Who knows…" Mia said in a playful tone.
"What troublesome day." I sighed.
