Chapter 22 - Alatar The Great!

CRASH!

Alex was left with no other choice but to grit his teeth and bare the pain that was striking every part of his body.

Normally, pain in game wouldn't be a huge problem but for realism players could choose to adjust the percentage of pain tolerance that the body perceived. For casuals they could completely turn it off but for pro's they could play with the pain enabled.

You might think why on earth would Alex have it on then if it serves no purpose but pain. Is he a sicko?

Well, down the line players, mainly pro's would learn that to truly immerse themselves in the game to the point that their body and player become one with movements having the addition of pain would push them past boundaries. Allowing them to break through in times of need.

That was how the players at the top of the game separated themselves from the casuals.

Through the years Alex had came to realise that 80% was the sweet spot for acceptable pain tolerance in game. At the start of account creation he set it to this number and until today he was yet to take real damage with his past experiences.

-Alex's POV-

Scrunched up in a ball, Alex didn't bother to scout around the cave system he had entered. Feeling the warmth in his body struggling to stay within he pushed himself to take a common grade health potion.

+25 HP

'aaah' feeling his body accept the potion he knew he wasn't going to die just yet as he took a look at his status making sure the bleed effect had disappeared.

"Ah, that's a relief. Although I could just make a new Chestplate and armour if I had died. The point is that I really didn't want to die in game."

"Having an account with a 0% death rate for as long as possible sure will be cool as hell to keep."

"I don't know if t's going to be possible with dungeons but as a little added pressure in life and death situations it's not a bad thing to strive for."

Picking himself up from the floor he could finally take in his surroundings. The sound of a water crashing against rocks from the direction he entered gave noise to the silent room.

Spinning around he saw the cave grow from a narrow entrance to a relatively large cave system. It was almost like he had found a goblin hideout. The walls had signs of having been mined from pickaxes as there was gaps were ores could be slotted.

Alex walked for a minute or two before coming to the centre of the cave. He was blessed with light that peered in through the gaps of the cave ceiling. and in the centre of the room was a altar with a single item.

Feeling curiosity take a hold Alex sped up slightly until he was able to see what it was.

[Great Alatar's Notes #4 - Grade Unique.]

"Huh?!"

"Alatar? As in the legendary Great wizard?"

For backstory Alatar was a Great Grand Wizard. In the lower realm there isn't anybody who doesn't know of his name. Many years ago the was a golden age when many mages had many breakthrough's in their professions.

It was a time where many people were brought out of despair from those that had been corrupted by evil. Alatar was one of the few Wizards that grew from a regular mage to a wizard that shocked the world with his might. Defeating the Demon Lord of the time and sending many raining Lichs and evil magical creatures back into hiding.

"His notes huh? Maybe it's a biography or a storyline?"

"That said I don't remember anything like this in my previous life. Could it be something that was lost or even more shocking. Never discovered?"

Opening up the diary Alex found it too be hand written in a special runic ink of the highest quality.

'Too the special person who finds this part of my inheritance.'

"Inheritance? Hold up WHATTTT!"

Alex screamed out in disbelief.

"Wait wait wait. In my past life this didn't exist. Is this something that change with myself coming back in time or is it because I have changed the course of the future with my very being?"

"Ahh this is giving me a headache. Well, I guess it doesn't really matter all too much considering I plan to stray even further from my past life's course. There's no point stressing about it till I go insane."

Looking back down towards the diary Alex continued to read.

'To the person coming into contact with this book note that my inheritance doesn't require any test. In fact, if your holding this book congrats. Your now my partial successor. The reason I say partial is because there are many more books out there.

All of which contain techniques and experiences of my time from beginner mage to Great Grand Wizard. Now if your reading this and your not a mage in training don't fret. My techniques don't have to be used by a wizard in fact as long as you have Mana do as you see fit.

My one and only requirement is Protect the good and rid the evil.'

"What a swell guy. To just hand out his life's work like that to the person that found it."

"What happens if the dude was a pyscho?"

Turning over the page he found two pictures. One of a man sat in a lotus position reciting a breathing technique. The second of a man in combat applying this breathing technique.

A breathing technique huh. Not bad.
