Beast Hunting

"Shut up! Don't you dare speak without my permission? Your salary for this month is cancelled if you do not go and finish your job right now." Feran pointed in the direction of fields.

Evian wanted to retort however he knew that he would receive a beating if he said anything, so he clenched his fist and started moving towards the fields.

However, before he could take in some breaths Feran's voice reverberated again. "And yes, from tomorrow onwards your job will change, you are now promoted from a farmer to beast hunter."

Evian raised his eyebrows and turned back, he could see an evil smile on Feran's face. He knew the meaning of his evil smile.

Feran was always a sadist, he enjoyed making people suffer and always wanted to show his powers. Because of his strength, he ruled over all the servants.

And it was his hobby to make people suffer.

Today was Evian's unlucky day that he met with this cruel monster.

Nodding he bowed again and quickly escaped out of his gaze.

"Looks like my good luck ended here today." Evian sighed. He knew that Feran didn't have any personal vendetta towards him it's just how he treated everyone.

And as for the duty change Evian already knew of it, every three years duties changed for every servant. Some get easy jobs like cutting vegetables in the kitchen and some get hard jobs like beast hunting.

Although beast hunting was not that laborious one only needed to hunt one beast per month to supply to the Cheif Kitchen.

However, it was a dangerous task, if one is not careful then he could be critically injured.

"Sigh, although it's a dangerous job, still now I have luck on my side. And since I only have to deliver one wild beast per month, I will now have more time for training."

Although Evian was a little nervous about this new job, however, he was still hopeful.

"Aye Eve, what were you and that fairy of death talking about? wait... your face seems pretty red, don't tell me you are blushing you, masochist." A crude but high pitch voice came from Evian's left.

Just by the voice, Evian knew that it was his only friend in this manor, Jim.

"Sigh... don't even get me started, that red fairy has spun her baton on this poor fellow today," Evian said dejectedly.

"What did he do? Tell me." Jim looked at him with curious eyes like he was ready to hear his misery and laugh at him.

Evian rolled his eyes towards him. "I will have to finish sowing the seeds tonight and after that from tomorrow, my job has changed to a dangerous one."

Jim raised his eyebrows as his curiosity went through roof. "Quickly tell me what job did you got?"

Evian saw his curious face and a sneaky smile formed on his face. "First you tell me what job did you get this time?"

Jim's curiosity died down as soon as he heard Evian's question. "Don't worry dude, this time I guarantee that my luck would be worse than you."

Evian frowned at his words. "What do you mean?"

Jim looked at him with depressed eyes. "First promise me you won't laugh at me."

Evian narrowed his eyes in an evil smile. Rubbing his hands he asked excitedly. "Hehehe... looks like you have got some interesting job. Don't tell me you are a janitor for the next three years."

Jim sighed and looked down at the ground, "It's even worse than that. I am now the personal servant of master Fin and you know how bad his temper is. I am afraid that he would punish me on the first day."

Fin was the older son of Village Cheif, who was also a grade three martial artist. And the history of Fin and his servants are not great. He usually bullies his servents and punishes them harshly even at the smallest mistakes.

Evian, who was getting excited at Jim's misery, suddenly became sad too. It was alright to make fool of Jim if he became a janitor, however, becoming Fin's servant was truly a bad job.

Evian placed his hand on Jim's shoulder. "Don't worry dude, I know you are sensible enough to get out of these three years easily."

Jim showed him a depressed smile. "It's not about that, actually there are rumours that Master Fin has started to try his hands in the dark arts."

"Dark arts?" Evian raised his brows.

"Yep Dark arts, it's just a rumour so I don't know the details, but from the information I have gathered, dark artists are very wicked, they experiment on dead bodies and sometimes even sacrifice the Living to get more power."

"That is cruel, be careful brother..." That was all that Evian could say to Jim as he could do nothing right now. Maybe he has got a unique power, but he needs some time to train it.

Until then Jim's future and safety are in his own hands.

"Yes..." Jim sighed. "Forget about it, tell me about your new job?" he asked.

"It's not as bad as yours but it could be the second-worst job," Evian scratched the back of his head. "I got the Beast hunter job this time."

Jim raised one of his brows in surprise. "That is definitely worse than my job. I thought I was unlucky today but hey man I don't think I can ever beat you."

Evian punched Jim's shoulder lightly. "Don't worry, I will not die even if you pray for it day and night. You know how good I am at escaping, right?"

"I don't know about that but it would be funny if you die from a wild goose. What would people say about you? That you died from a quack slam... he he he he!" Jim laughed.

"I hope Master Fin turn you into a zombie."

Jim's laugh vanished and he gave Evian a flying finger, after that he ran towards his room. "Good luck sowing the seeds... hehe he..." Jim's voice dimmed with his laughter.

Evian sighed and moved his body towards the fields, and only after eight hours of continuous work when the sun was about to rise did he finish his work.

"Phew, I am done and I won't have to do this work again, hopefully for the next three years." From the time he joined the Village chief manor he always got Jobs related to farming, however, this time it was something new.

He was both excited and nervous about Beast hunting, as he has just got this amazing power, however, it was also a dangerous job where it could threaten his life.

Taking in a deep breath he refreshed his mind and after collecting five copper coins as his monthly salary he moved towards his room.

From today he has about thirty days to capture at least a grade two wild beast.

Just like humans, wild beasts are also divided into many grades and the minimum requirement for the beast hunting job is a grade two beast.

Evian was currently a grade one body master and to face a grade two beast with his measly power means his death if he is not using any traps.

However, traps cost a lot of money and could even fail. "I would at least need to be a grade two body master or grade one martial artist to even think about catching a grade two beast."

If Evian failed to catch a grade two beast in these two days then he would not receive any compensation for next months like his salary and the complimentary food and his dorm room.

However, if he was able to finish his job then not his salary would double, he would be free for a whole month if he submits the beast on the first day.

"Now I have to cultivate for as long as I can. I will try to catch the beast in the last five days." He decided to hole up in his room for the next twenty-five days and cultivate as much as he can so he could be powerful enough to catch a grade two beast.

That was exactly what he did. He only ate and cultivated for the next twenty-five days. And on the twenty-fifth day, he opened his eyes and let out a sigh of disappointment.

"Cultivation is harder than I thought. I am not even close to a breakthrough. Now I hope that my explosive seals help me. As my Qi is half as powerful as a grade one martial artist."

With nervousness covering his body he took a bath and moved out of the village manor, "I will not put my life to risk, even if I have to sleep on roads and eat dirt."

He decided to be careful and not go outside his limits.

After reaching the wilderness outside the village he looked at the bag he brought with him. It contained a water bottle, some fruits to eat and a machete that he brought from the village.

He didn't bring any traps because he didn't have enough money.
