Day 3: Texting and Calling

Kareem stared at her message with a slight smile, 'looks like not everything is going bad for me' his big-time crush had hit him up for the first time. Kareem knew this was the result of two things: 1. His new haircut, 2. He left her on seen before leaving to go get his cut.

The reason why she dm'd him up first is that this is the first time he had chosen to disregard her and focus on himself. She normally would not even find out that Kareem had left her on seen without a reminder. His post was the perfect reminder for her to check if he had messaged her back due and being left on 'seen' developed a deep sense of mystery for Kareem which led to this result.

Kareem decided to reply back to her later and went home to take a shower first. Still regretting his decisions when in the salon he decided to write down his new goal of talking without waiting when he got out.

Once Kareem got outside his shower he went to go find his old notebook to write down his new goals which he had never done before. Trying to find his notebook, Kareem noticed the utter disgust his room created for him, he readily decided to clean his room and make his bed for the first time in years.

His parents had decided to leave him to his own devices when graduated because of his non-existence lifestyle and gave him monthly pocket money to buy groceries for when he decided to make food for himself or eat out.

Once done with cleaning his room he went out to go get eggs and high protein foods and a gram measurer to start his new diet. He learned that by eating 500 less calories than his caloric maintenance he could lose weight while losing as little muscle as possible. This was a tedious and long process that required time though which he was prepared for.

While on the way to the local grocery store his phone rang again, his crush had messaged him again 'hello?' she had double texted him for the first time again. Kareem smiled wryly, he was busy for the first time getting his life back in order and his crush decided to show her clingy side the day of.

This brought Kareem joy though, this was the first time a girl had shown so much interest in himself and he had done nothing to go after it. All he did was focus on changing his life up for the day and her behaviour had changed accordingly. Before he would always message her back instantly and never posted anything on his gram that he should have been regularly doing.

This is only possible when only focusing on yourself, when you start caring about your own well-being over others the world does the same for you.

Kareem decided to finally call his crush back instead of replying.

ring....

*picks up*

"Hello?" Elizabeth replied once she picked up the phone, she had been wondering why Kareem had been ignoring her for the whole day today, her womanly instincts had started working at extra high speed and scenarios were clearly quickly thought up right before Kareem had called her surprisingly. Normally Kareem would be timid when just messaging her but to call her out of nowhere made her curious.

She hesitantly picked up the call and replied back.

"Hey Elizabeth, miss me already?" Kareem replied with a slight smile

"of course not dummy, why were you ignoring my messages today?" Elizabeth although surprised by Kareem's cockiness was quite happy to see this new side of Kareem.

"So you were missing me? haha" Kareem replied

"ok fine, don't tell me." Elizabeth replied with slightly red cheeks

"I was just busy focusing on myself, my fault I didn't know I needed to babysit you" Kareem replied playfully

"wow ok fine bye" Elizabeth said testing Kareem's confidence

"bye Elizabeth" Kareem said as he cut the call first. He smiled mockingly before he went on his merry way.

"This asshole really hung up on me" Elizabeth frustrated sat down on her bed woven in silk. She was surprised by how cocky and confident the dude she considered as a deadbeat loser had become to her and surprisingly she did not hate it...

"Watch him come back, asking for forgiveness when I stop replying to him completely," Elizabeth said as she went back on her phone and realized she had gotten 3 messages from guys she was talking to beforehand. She opened 2 of them and they were both complimenting her appearance. The last one was the only natural one who had asked her a question about where she would go on vacation if she had to choose.

Even after 3 texts from different guys the only person who had not given her a single compliment or asked surface-level questions was the one on her mind currently.

Kareem was at the store currently getting his shit together, he had bought the supplies he needed for weight loss.

On the way back he was looking for local gyms to start his workout journey. Unfortunately, there were no gyms that were present locally. As he kept scrolling through his phone he found a boxing gym that was opening on Monday. That was in 2 days and the location was a 5 min walking distance from his house.

He had never thought about starting boxing before but since the opportunity was presented to him by the universe he would take it with grateful hands. He would not allow the situations like at the salon to happen ever again in his life. He quickly called the gym that was opening in 2 days and planned on purchasing the open gym membership for the year through e-transfer. Although this would cost him the entire monthly pocket money he had from his parents completely he did not mind it one bit.

He called up the boxing gym number and the voice on the other line came from a woman....
