First Quest

Ryan wiped the blood from the kitchen knife and looked around.

In the middle of all the chaos, he expected some sort of insane massacre to occur, but the reality was that things had not deteriorated to that point.

He saw a group of people standing safe and sound locked behind the main supermarket doors, and a few other people were running towards the same.

So he as well quickly walked over there.

Though no one was fighting and killing each other randomly any longer, there was still a lot of panic and hysteria. Everyone was restless because no one had any idea what was going on.

“Argh! Ahhhh! That person is coming to kill me!”

“That person’s eyes turned red!”

“Move away! Fuck your sister!”

“Get the hell out of my way.”

“Did you guys see the blue screen? What is happening?”

Ryan calmly walked along with this panicked crowd. He didn’t know why but for some reason the more the people around him were panicked, the more he felt calm and steady.

More and more people entered the huge hall of the supermarket, but just as Ryan was about to walk through, a tall and sturdy man blocked his way and closed the doors on his face.

A group of men also stood behind the doors and held them steady so that no one could break in or force their way in.

Hmmm? Ryan raised his brows calmly.

However, the people beside him were not as casual.

“Open the door, damn it!”

“Open it! Open it!”

“I will call the police and complain about you! Open the fucking door damn it!”

“Ahhh! Ahhh! Ahh!”

Everyone started crowding around the door and banging on it heavily. In their current mindset, it was as if the supermarket hall was the only sanctuary and they were denied access to it.

So the crowd went into an uproar and started kicking and screaming at the huge doors, hurling out curses.

But unfortunately, none of it helped and the men inside only looked away. They were discussing something amongst themselves and they clearly had no intention of opening up the doors again.

The doors as well were pretty strong and sturdy so they held strong even with the horde falling on them.

“There should be a door upstairs as well. We can go there and wait until help arrives.” Someone from the crowd shouted and half the group started running upwards.

A few others tried to go to the nearby shops and some others decided to simply go outside. They hurriedly tried to run away wherever possible and hide.

Ryan observed the situation for a second and then followed one of the groups to a nearby shop. As the bunch of people neared the shop, one middle-aged woman loudly screeched.

A small green creature stood in front of them with its unusually big eyes bulging out from its sockets. The creature’s face was disgusting and covered with big green pimples just like its skin color.

Everyone including Ryan froze as they simply couldn’t believe what they were seeing. What was this creature? What were the blue screens and just what the hell was happening?

As opposed to the human beings who couldn’t comprehend everything instantly, the strange creature had no issues reacting and it directly jumped on the woman who had been closest to it.

With its long thin fingers, the creature gripped the woman’s head and used its other hand to scratch her neck.

Blood started spurting out and fear and dread filled the woman’s eyes before they finally went still and lifeless. The entire thing took only a second.

No one could even move a muscle before the woman who was completely well and alive was suddenly no more.

The group of people could only dumbly stare ahead with no idea of what to do. They might as well be lambs waiting for their slaughter.

Ryan, however, snapped out of his trance as his black screen popped out without warning and displayed a string of strange words.

Ding. Negative energy has reached the threshold

Ding. New Quest: Kill 5 goblins

Ding. Reward: Contract with a lesser demon

“Oh? Quest and reward? Does this mean if I finish this quest, I will be rewarded?”

Answering his rhetorical question, the letters flickered once again and a new word appeared.

Ding. Yes

Ryan’s eyes immediately lit up as the reward seemed really good. He would be able to bind a demon and summon it to fight alongside him.

Didn’t that mean he would become really powerful and slaughter all these zombies and strange creatures with ease?

“I need to finish this quest to increase my strength.” He decided resolutely but the main issue still remained. How was he supposed to kill the strong creature in the first place?

SCREE! SCREE! SCREE!

The goblin screeched loudly and dashed forward to claim its next victim. Everyone else started finally reacting and moving.

Hmmm… Ryan’s gaze shifted as he knew that this was not good for him. He needed the goblin to be preoccupied so that he could catch it off guard.

That really seemed to be the best strategy for now as he was far weaker than the creature.

And for that… he needed a scapegoat!
