THE Auction House was nothing more than an ordinary townhouse that looked sketchy.
First of all, the townhouse was located in a block with nothing but empty lots. Moreover, not only 'bad kids' were present there.
[There are adults.]
By "adults," she meant grown-up men acting like bouncers in a dance club. The adults looked carefree while having a smoke in the front yard. But she could tell those bastards were watching their movements.
"S-Sol, should we just head home?" Kaia whispered in fear while clinging to her arm. "This place looks c-creepy…"
"The safest place for you is by my side," Sol said nonchalantly. "If you want to make it out alive, stick to me."
Kaia immediately stuck closer to her.
"Okay, we've confirmed Kaia Fajardo is the highest bidder for Sol Fontana's auctioned hair," Kenneth, their schoolmate acting as the Auction House's receptionist, said. "Wait on the second floor, Room 2 for your purchased item."
She noticed Kenneth couldn't look at her straight in the eye.
[Ah, now I know why he looks familiar. He's one of Quest's minions.]
Then Sol was certain Kenneth would report to Quest Venosa about her visit at the Auction House today.
[Boy, things are about to get exciting.]
"Thanks," Sol said when she received the room key from Kenneth, then she smirked at the guy. "Tell Quest I said "hi.""
Kenneth dude just glared at her.
She just laughed it off, then she pulled Kaia with her.
There was a wild party happening inside the townhouse.
When she said "wild," she meant really wild. Alcohol and perhaps drugs were involved. Most of the guests were obviously high. Nobody even batted an eye at her and Kaia. Everyone was busy dancing, drinking, and making out.
[Hah. Most of the guests are high school students, huh?]
She also noticed some frat men, so that meant even the college students of that area were involved in Eloise Venosa's business.
"The music is too loud," Kaia complained while they were on the staircase, then she covered her ears with her hands. "Can they even hear each other?"
"You don't need to talk that much at this kind of party," she said with a shrug. "They must be too stoned to understand each other, anyway."
"Huh?"
She just ignored Kaia's question.
And that stupid girl freaked out anyway when they saw a straight couple having sex in the hallway. A pretty girl was pressed against the wall while being pounded by a muscular guy from behind.
Sex was fine, but that looked like a crime because the girl was obviously underage, while the guy doing her was probably over twenty. Or older.
"Don't mind them," Sol said when she noticed Kaia gathering her courage to disturb the couple. "It's none of our business."
Kaia's face turned red, then she nodded and followed her quietly.
She opened the door that had a sign that said 'Room 2.' It was just an ordinary master's bedroom, but there was a make-shift bar counter filled with fresh bottles of booze. To be precise, the room looked like a standard hotel room.
[One, two, three… five in total. In the painting, mini-fridge, headboard, ceiling, bathroom door, and inside the closet.]
She was counting the spy cameras that she could detect through her sharp senses.
Of course, she didn't directly look at the cameras. It was easy for her to tell when she was being watched.
Her skin would crawl every time she was being watched in secret.
It was all thanks to Yue, her obsessed brother, for putting spy cameras in her room since she was a child. She developed her sharp senses because of that.
"I'm thirsty," Kaia said, then she squatted down in front of the mini-fridge. "I wonder if there are soft drinks or juice here?"
She was about to tell Kaia not to drink anything in that room when, all of a sudden, the door burst open.
Two adult men entered the room and locked the door behind.
Both men looked like they were in their early forties. Her instincts were also telling her that their uninvited guests were ex-convicts.
[They're probably r*pists, judging by the way they strip us off through their lewd gaze.]
Kaia hid behind her when the men leered at them.
She, on the other hand, calmly assessed the two men.
Both adults were just a few inches taller than her, and they had average build.
[Their necks look easy to snap, and they're obviously stoned.]
"Sol Fontana?" asked the man in a fitted black shirt. "Come with us if you don't want your friend to go through hell."
"No need to rush," Sol said while laughing, then she headed to the bar counter. "Why don't we have a drink first?"
The two men didn't hesitate to approach her.
She immediately grabbed a bottle from the counter.
As soon as the guy grabbed her from behind, she smashed the back of her head against his face as hard as she could. Then she stomped on the floor hard and smashed the bottle on the counter. After that, she stepped forward and back kicked the assailant in the stomach with her other foot.
When the grip around her stomach loosened up, she turned around to face the man.
[Here's a pro tip: slashing the throat like in the movies doesn't always work in real life, especially if you're not using a very sharp knife.]
Do it like her: she f*cking stabbed the assailant straight into the neck to the side of the larynx (aka Adam's apple/voice box). Since she was almost the same height as her target, it was easy for her to stab him deeply in the neck. Plus, she was on her "kill mode" so she was stronger than normal.
After stabbing the guy, she yanked the broken bottle sideways, away from the larynx. She could tell that she successfully severed both the carotid artery and the jugular vein when her victim dropped on the floor, groaning in pain, blood spurting from his neck.
"I cut the carotid artery that supplies blood to his brain so he'll die shortly," she warned coldly while pointing the sharp end of the bottle in the other man's direction.
The other man, the one who came with the target she just stabbed, was standing near Kaia– frozen in shock. But she could also tell that the man's job wasn't to grab her like the other one did earlier. He was there to protect Kaia.
[This game is getting fun!]
In the corner of her eye, she saw Kaia slumped on the floor while her shaking hands were operating her smartphone.
"Kaia Fajardo," Sol said with a smirk. "I'll f*cking kill you too if you call for help."
