The Debutantes Ball (part 10)

Merida's point of view:

When the time for baptism arrived, we were all led to the garden.

Arriving there, we saw that everything was decorating with lanterns and various other ritual decorations and fireflies roamed the flowers giving a mystical air to the place.

Everything was silent and few were talking to each other, calmly waiting for the start.

"So beautiful" I muttered under my breath unconsciously.

"The baptism is a kind of oath to the Gods, they really spared no effort to accomplish all this" Luan commented beside me.

"It is said that since ancient times, it was not uncommon for some people to swear an oath to the Gods in search of protection, however, many did so with evil and occult thoughts and resorted to the wrath of the Deities, being expelled of the reincarnation cycle and having their destroyed souls" Said Arthur as he approached.

"However," He continued. "There are records of Families who received a kind of divine sign and thus became spokespersons for the deity who blessed them, keeping the order secretely in their name"

"But it's a shame that many of these families were eradicated and forgotten in the annals of time, either because of human greed or because they caused a certain level of apprehension and threat to the ruling families of the time."

"At the moment, there is only the registration of a family that is known, and this is the Aires Family, but nothing prevents others that are hidden and that just cannot be revealed for security reasons"

Hearing his words, I fell into contemplation, the reality was really cruel.

"So" I said suddenly. "The only reason the Aires have survived so far is because of their power and influence?" I asked curiously.

"Yes and no" Said Brayan getting down to business. "Actually, until about five generations ago the Aires were not known for the other families"

"They amassed their wealth and increased their influence silently for several generations, and when they finally had sufficient control of the situation, they sent a representative to each emperor's palace and made them aware of their existence."

"Of course, initially the Emperors felt threatened and formed an alliance to eradicate them, but they just couldn't locate them and after years of not being aware of their location or any action taken, they stopped searching."

"And just left it at that?" Asked Luan.

"That's where the interesting part comes in" Artur resumed. "After the search ceased, new representatives were sent to the palaces again and this time, as a threat"

"If they made a move to attack one of their members they would be eradicated without hesitation, they also gave a warning that they did not wish to fight for power, let alone land, they were just there to fulfill the Moon Goddess's will"

"One of the five Royal Families ignored his warning and went to war, the result was that they were not only eradicated but also a new Family was chosen to stay in their place, after that, everything returned to tranquility and few times were heard of the Aires family again, however, that lesson remained and was passed on as a warning to future generations."
