If Only The Truth Held Weight

"The day started as any other" she begins, adjusting herself in her chair. "The king was always hard on Evania, he would wake her up early to train her. She was in the field with him, fighting." She tells me as she pulls out a bottle from the chair and takes a swig of her alcohol. "There were so many things to factor in" she dwells, her eyes sunken to the floor.

"What do you mean?" I ask her

"She was to be married, a distant ally's of Ophela's. She was of marrying age, her father wished her to ascend to the throne with a husband and children so she would be well received. The day of the infiltration she was going to meet with him betrothed. She arrived, waiting for him in the hallway, her mother, and father behind her as she made her way to her future husband. But she would never meet him, he was ruthlessly slaughtered in the gardens. Guard were to busy defending the castle to realize that the gates were breached, that was the biggest mistake that very day" she critiques

"One of the men.....were they?" I stutter as I stop myself, "Was his name Kellan Duke?" I ask her as she nods her head.

"He was of many Narvyian men killed" she tell me as my eyes close in grief.

"I know as soon as the Queen saw troops coming she ran, leaving her daughter and husband. But I never knew what happened after that. It is assumed that the king fought to protect his daughter, killing the men in his way but I say differently." She admits

"What did you see?" I ask her as she looks at me in the eyes

"I was running through the halls of the castle after some men let me go, and I- I- I-." She stutters out, "I saw Princess Evania there, on the floor. Her dress was covered in blood, dead men lined the hallways and on her lap laid her father. I heard her, she told him she was sorry, I remember his blood sinking into the floor. Footsteps neared and she placed the sword against her fathers heart and-" she stops, taking another swig.

"She killed him?" I ask her as her eyes confirm it all.

"He was always hard on her, forcing her to marry and training her, I never thought she would kill him!" She cries dramatically as I sigh, thinking about Evania actions.

*************

Slipping into the study as I see her, sitting beside a bookshelf. Sitting on her chair, scrolls spread across every inch of the desk as her eyes focused on the papers.

"Don't you have something better to do?" She ask me, her eyes glued on a stack of scrolls

"I hate to admit, but this is the best activity I have" I reply as she sighs, continuing in one swift movement to sign her name across another scroll, resting the quill back in the ink.

"I went to visit someone today" I bait her as I finally see her eyes.

"Was it Rogers?" She ask me as I nod my head no to her question. "Then it must not be of any importance to me" she says, her eyes turning back to the scroll as her quill hastily scribbles across another scroll.

"I learned something today...….something about you" I bait her as her eyes stay still, not a quiver of fear in her body as she ignores me. "I saw the historian" I confess as she loudly laughs

"You define achieving a history lesson as a weapon against me?!" She taunts me with her outrageous laugh as I grit my teeth in hatred for her.

"Since you mentioned it to me at the ball the topic has been wondering my mind" I tell her as she continues, her careless demeanour the same.

"You're come to admit your truths?" Her curiosity grappling at me as her eyes remained on her scroll but her quill slowed at the thought.

"The infiltration" I blurt out as her quill picks up again and her demeanour is the same. "You were here, in this very castle. Both your mother and father-" I try to speak as she cuts me off.

"Far from that, my mother abandoned me in the sight of war, my fathers is...…well, gone! But make no mistake, I was not the only orphan to come from the infiltration, only the luckiest" her correction as she continues her duties, like any day.

"How did your father die?" I ask her as she chuckles.

"King Titus died in battle, in the infiltration of this very castle, within these very walls." She admits, her eyes never meeting mine.

"I don't think that is the full truth, why would you lie to your husband?" I ask her as she nods her head in disappointment to me.

"There are many reasons I chose to lie to my husband, but this is not one of them" the annoyed voice in her tone as she takes her spectacles off and looks at me, finally!

"I know the truth Evania" I say as she sits in her chair, unimpressed, "It seems the truth can be bought, at least from your historian" I confess as I finally see the look I craved to see on her cold and emotionless face. The look of her world burning from the inside out. "It seems you have a knack for stabbing people in the heart" I taunt as she stands, anger in her blooming eyes, "What did your father do to deserve it? Not buy you a pony? You wanted a different hairstyle? Oh! Wait, you wanted to be queen, right?" I dig as she walks closer to me, her fist tightening.

"You know what my people see me as?" The question stunning me as she looks out her window. "They see me as a miracle, a blessing. When I survived the infiltration nobody believed it, I had twenty Narvyian soldiers on the other side of the door while I wept, spewing disgust at what they would do with me, how they would love to make me theirs. But I lived, my honor still intact." She briefs me as I smirk at her story.

"Nobody will once the truth is revealed" I tell her as she turns back to me

"No matter what you say this is the truth, my father was killed in battle" she continues

"Did you kill your father?" I ask her as her eyes stay blank, "Did you kill your father, Evania?" I ask her again as she takes a deep breath and I prepare for another lie.

"Yes" she confesses, her eyes blank as she holds her hand, "I killed my own father" she repeats as surprise envelops my body.
