Letter Nine

Hi dad.

I rechecked the mailbox today for the sixth time. I asked my mom if she had posted my letter. The mailman came, and I kept asking him about your letter. I even asked him if he was keeping your letter to just himself. All I got was a disappointment, a yes and a no.

I don't know if you are busy with your business or you have something else on your mind. I just don't know anything. Mom said you would be back in a month, but it's been one month and a half. I asked her if it was a business trip to which her eyes welled up. She didn't answer.

I don't know what's going on. I sometimes hear mom crying in her bedroom. I can't comfort her then because she doesn't open her door. I don't get it, dad. Why did you leave us like that?

You left, you aren't writing back, and the phone in the house doesn't ring anymore. Are we all okay, dad?

Please write back.

We want you back home.

Your Ann.
