Fifty-Two

Ash stood with her arms wrapped around Alexandra who was crying into her chest as Caleb lowered Morgana’s ashes into the ground in a green container. A week had passed since Serena’s trial and execution, and Ash found that at this point she could only stare as Morgana’s remains were covered with moist soil.

Ash stroked her sister’s hair as she wept no doubt getting snot all over the faux corseted bodice, but Ash didn’t mind. Dealing with the loss of a loved one was never easy, no matter what they had done. That’s what Ash told herself anyway. She didn’t want to sully this moment of grieving by bringing up Morgana’s past transgressions, especially since she was struggling with how to think of the woman presently.

Morgana had brought Ash back from the dead and nearly gambled away her own soul. She let out a breath and looked down at Alexandra who had gone still. “Are you ready?” she asked gently.
