Chapter 10- What If

I went downstairs to find everyone at the table eating breakfast. I grabbed some food and sat down to join them. Everybody was so quiet so i decided to speak up. "Has anyone ever thought about what we're going to do if Morgana ever decides to show her face again?" Everyone exchanged looks around the table. "What?" I said. "We never worried about that, it's been years. We don't know if she's even alive anymore." Said Reilly. "But what if she is?... What if she finds the ring?... What if..." Josh cut me off. "Will you please stop." The room became quiet again. I opened my mouth to speak again but then closed it because I was probably being annoying. Nobody spoke after that. I changed the subject by asking where Caroline was. "Probably upstairs still. She takes a while to get ready in the morning." Said Chance. She had no problem getting ready yesterday morning when she yelled at me. I said to myself. "Typical girl." Said Josh. I rolled my eyes at him. Not all girls took a long time to get ready. Also I've met a lot of guys that took their sweet time getting ready too. I didn't want to fight with anyone so I just kept my mouth shut. Just then Caroline comes clicking down the stairs with her heels. She walks over to the table and sits down right on Chance's lap and starts kissing him. Something snapped inside of me that I couldn't quite put my finger on. I was so confused. Why didn't he tell me that they were together? After a good minute of kissing Caroline finally got up and said good morning to everyone, then got a plate and sat down on her own chair next to Chance. Chance looked up at me and we locked eyes. I couldn't help but to be angry at him for not telling me. Not that there was anything between us in the first place but that doesn't mean I didn't want there to be. I finally broke the eye contact and stared down at my plate. When everybody finished breakfast Reilly announced that we will meet in an hour to start training. I started to head back up to my room when I ran into Josh. "Hey Josh." I said. He looked at me and I walked over to him. "What's up?" "I just wanted too apologize for earlier. I didn't mean to ask so many questions or cause any problems. If I did anything to make you hate me then I'm sorry for that." He stared at me for a moment before saying anything. "It's okay. I know you have a lot of questions. We just don't like to think about the possibility of her returning." He looked down at the ground. "I know it's hard for you, and I'm so sorry that you went through all that pain." He didn't look up at me. "Could I just ask one thing?"He finally made eye contact with me. "When the immortality was extracted from her how come she didn't die from being bitten?" "The immortality completely removed the poison from her body. The poison was no longer in her when they drained the immortality from her so it was like it never happened." He said to me. "Though I know it happened, and it still hurts as bad as the day it did." "I'm sorr..." Chance came speeding around the corner. "Dakota!" He said. "Excuse me." I said to Josh and began speed walking the other direction. Chance yelled "Hey please wait up!" He caught up to me and grabbed my arm. "I don't have anything to say to you... You should of told me." "I know I'm sorry, but I didn't think there was anything between us. We broke up a while ago." "Then what was that little show all about at breakfast?" I asked. "I'm not sure, ask her." I rolled my eyes. "Well if there was nothing between you to then you wouldn't have kissed her back for a whole minute." He didn't respond. That's what I thought. "It doesn't even matter. There was nothing between us anyway." I started to walk away. He pulled me back. "Hey come on now." I stared at him for a minute. "You can't tell me you didn't feel a connection between us." "I did... and I feel stupid for thinking that we had something." I said as I turned around and walked away. This is stupid I said to myself. I'm not going to let this get to me. I'm not here to be in a relationship. I'm here because I'm a warrior by blood and I'm going be one by choice. When training time finally came I was the first one in the room. Chance came in after with Caroline on his shoulder. Ugh, I couldn't even look at them. At least now I knew what Josh meant when he said no secrets and that it was none of his business. But was it the truth? Had they broken up? Maybe Caroline couldn't accept that they broke up. Maybe I'm wrong for feeling what I feel. Josh and Reilly finally came in. Suddenly I wasn't in much of a mood to train anymore. "Ready?" asked Reilly. I looked up after a couple seconds. "I'm not really up for training anymore today." I got up and speed walked out of the room. "Dakota, wait!" Yelled Chance but Josh stopped him before he could run after. I stood outside the room to catch my breath as I listened to them talk about me. "I don't think she really wants to talk to you right now Chance." Said Josh and then walked out of the room. Reilly looked at Chance confused. Chance looked back at him. "Don't ask." He said and also walked out the the training room. "Don't look at me." Said Caroline. "I did nothing." Sure you did. I took off to my room before anyone could stop me, and that's where I stayed for the rest of the day.
