I retrace my steps by following the footprints the boar and I had left, before finally reaching the area where the guy was still lying unconscious. I tap his shoulder and try to wake him up. After a few tries, He finally opened his eyes. He squints at me before pressing his hand at his stomach and groans in pain.
"Who are you?" he manages to say.
"I'm a traveler, I just happened to stop by." I reply, I mean I can't exactly tell him that I'm a participant for a game.
"I see, could you take me back to my village? I was injured by a monster, the doctor would know what to do."
"Sure, but could you direct me to it?"
He nods and I try to support him as we made our way towards the village. I just realized that the two guys from before and him speak the same language as me, could it be that everyone else speaks it too? It would definitely make communication easier as learning a whole new language would not be easy. Since he addresses the monster boar as monster I'll go along with it.
"Where are my companions? Did they run off without me again?" He asks.
"They went in the direction towards the village just now, while I distracted the monster."
"So you managed to survive it on your own? You must be pretty strong, no wonder you didn't need a travelling companion."
"Fighting it was quite difficult, it was really fast and powerful, I barely managed to defeat it."
"You defeated it? I'm just really amazed you managed to do it without a weapon!"
Seeing as he could hold a conversation, he's probably feeling a bit better. We soon make it to a village. It had multiple similar looking houses, some animals that looked like normal chickens and cow were sleeping within the fences that enclosed them and flowers seemed to surround the village. Standing out from the rest of the house, was one that was dimly lit, at the center of the village.
"We're here, see that house that is lit up there? It's the doctor's house."
I nod and we made our way there. After knocking the door, a middle-aged man welcomes us in. Placing the guy from earlier on one of the empty beds, the middle-aged man then chants something and a white light envelopes the injured guy. When the light had disappeared, the guy jumped out of bed and stretched, he smiles and exclaims "I feel all healed up now! Thanks doc and you too traveler!"
"You should go back to resting on the bed Alex! I may have used healing magic but rest is still needed! What were you doing out there in the middle of the night anyways?! Were you and your no good companions doing something idiotic again? I've told you many times that they are bad influences! They are the least trustable villages here! And here I was, worried sick when you would come home! I've been staying up all night! You really think I wouldn't know that?"
The middle-aged man goes on and on, scolding the previously injured guy while the injured guy covers his ears. So the injured guy's name is Alex huh, I wonder what he was doing out there anyways. The middle-aged man and Alex look rather alike, the both of them have black hair and the same nose. Thanks to the lamp in the room, I am able to see more clearly now. Alex was definitely taller than me, he had black hair and blue eyes, he looked about the same age as me before I died. The middle-aged man bears a close resemblance to Alex, he had brown eyes instead of blue and a beard.
The room finally became silent. The middle-aged man takes off his glasses and says "Sorry for the trouble, my son Alex always gets into trouble. My name is Dan, I'm the doctor of this village. If not for you, those monsters might have devoured my son by now, so I'm thankful to you. If there's anything you need help with, do let me know!"
Alex stares at Dan flushed red with a face that seemed to say "You're embarrassing me!". I knew it, they were related! Did he say that there were ore monsters? I better go ask him!
Before I could ask my question, Alex points at me and says "Hey traveler, why are your eyes red and your ears quite pointy? Are you an elf? By the way what's your name?"
Being caught by surprise by such questions, I freeze for a moment, not knowing what to say. Okay, so at least now I know how my face looks like sort of but how do I answer that? If I say that I'm a vampire, wouldn't it cause them to be more worried since there's monsters out there? If I don't, they would eventually grow more suspicious if we interact in the future, since I can't be under the sun. Maybe, it would be best to just tell them the truth, judging by how I helped Alex back here, they wouldn't want to kill me right? Here it goes…
"Ah, I'm Blake and my eyes are red because I'm a vampire."
I feel like I messed up, but if things get worse then I would just avoid this village in the future.
Alex tilts his head to one side and asks "Vampire? What's that?"
Dan shakes his head and shrugs his shoulder. Are they for reals? Could it be that Vampires never existed before me?
"Vampires look pretty much like humans but they are harmed by sunlight and rely on blood as their food. But don't get me wrong or anything, I didn't come here to drink your blood or anything, I just happened to pass by your companions and the monster from earlier. Besides, I've already drank the blood of the monster so I'm not going to drink any of yours. Besides, I don't really want to drink human blood if possible."
The both of them stares at me with eyes wide open, before Dan broke the silence and laughed.
"HAHAHAHAHA, this is ridiculous! Getting hurt because of a little sunlight and drinking blood for food?! You truly are an imaginative person! HAHAHHAHHAAHA"
I stare at him in shock, again at a loss of words. Dan stands up from his seat and places his hand on my shoulder.
"But, if you're really oneit would surely cause the villagers to be wary of you. Regardless of whether that's true or not, I trust you since you had saved my son. For the time being, I suggest you lay low and claim that you're a human instead, it will be much easier for others to swallow. The both of us will help you keep it a secret if you want."
That makes sense, it never hurts to play safe right? Perhaps when the situation is better, I could tell the others anyways. But for now, I'll let them know that I'm a human. But am I really still going to get myself involved in this village? I mean it wouldn't hurt to have people to talk to, plus I could get more information about this world! It would be nice to have a place to stay in, I could hunt some monsters or animals to repay them in return anyways.
"Hey kid, you should rest here for the night, it is pretty late and lots of monsters crawling out there. There's an extra room at the back that was used by my staff. You can use it. If you want to stay here from now onwards, you're always welcomed. But I'm not going to provide food for you."
"Thanks, I appreciate it. Could you also keep it a secret that I'm a vampire?"
"Of course, now night kid!"
Dan says, then he and Alex made their way upstairs. My surroundings was once again engulfed in darkness as the lamp no longer lit the room. I stumbled around as I made my way towards the room at the back. The room had a single bed at the corner of the room and a closet in front of the bed. There is a small window next to the bed, seeing it as a danger, I quickly use the curtains to block it. I wouldn't want to wake up burning to crisp. I lie on the bed as I try to fall asleep, but I just can't help thinking about what happened today.
I was sent to this game as a vampire, then I defeated a monster boar. Afterwards, I helped an injured person and here I am now. This is nice, I'm happy to have met Dan and Alex, they seem really nice. I'm thankful that Dan had let me stay here. I wonder what I should do tomorrow…I'm feeling so sleepy now…
