CHAPTER 10: Illegitimate Child

Both of us stopped and flinched upon hearing his sudden revelation. There was a moment of silence that envelops the whole room. With wide eyes, we both stared at him who was grinning with leisure.

'He almost forgot!? That is the most important information and yet he is acting as if it's an unimportant detail'

I glared as I stared at him like he's a crazy person, well maybe he is. "Are you serious!?" I asked as I leaned on the desk with a bewildered look. On the other hand, Draco is giving him a murderous look. I can imagine seeing a dark aura surrounding him.

"Pfft you should have seen your faces!" he answered while suppressing his laughter. Is this man for real? I slapped a hand over my face, letting out a groan of frustration.

"Is this a laughing matter to you?" Draco hissed with his hand cleansing and ready to punch. Seeing this, Damien waved his hands as he slowly slid back on his swivel chair.

Upon hearing this, I immediately blocked him with my arm and looked at him in exhaustion "Calm down Draco" And good thing that he did.

Damien wipes the tears on the corner of his eye, "Anyway, you should hurry. Because the next full moon will be three months from now" he nonchalantly informed.

"Can't you just say all that earlier!?" I exclaimed as I stomped my feet in anger. This guy is starting to get on my nerves.

He just stared at me innocently, "Whaaat? It's fun".

Hearing his excuse, Draco had enough of his nonsense and went out of the room. I also followed him with the book on my arm. As I was about to go out the door, I glanced back at Damien who was strangely staring at me the whole time. He smirked and rested his chin on the back of his hand. I just furrowed my brows as I stepped out of the room. I can't believe we're trusting our lives to this eccentric man.

===========================

After Draco dropped me off at the gate of his house, I immediately went inside the gate. Due to tiredness, I slowly walked with heavy steps. Why is the main door so far away anyway? I heaved a deep sigh as I grabbed the door handle. Oddly, for the past few days, I was living here in Draco's residence, no one talked to me —not even the maids. And if they did, they would just briefly inform me of something. His family is hardly ever home and even if they are, they won't care if I'm even here or not. Is this how Draco was treated here? Well lucky for me, it will be unlikely that they will notice Draco's sudden changes. I just hope that no one will talk to me today. As I was walking halfway on the stars, A familiar voice then called out.

"Where have you been?" I stopped on my track and rolled my eyes in annoyance. If there is a God, is this your way of saying that you won't let me be?

I took a deep breath as I composed myself, getting ready to be Draco. "I was with Emma" I coldly answered with a stern face as I turned around and faced the owner of the voice.

It's Leonard, Draco's younger brother. Just like his parents, he only came home once in a while. From what I know, Leonard is usually in his penthouse. He only comes home when he needs something. And according to Draco, he is an obnoxious and complete asshole who always made his life absolute hell.

"Of course you're with her. You know, you're doing a great job at making Cromwell's only daughter fall head over heels for you." he then said as he walked toward me, circling as he stopped at a higher level than mine. Making him look down at me in this position.

"I mean, isn't it convenient? After you get married to her, we can slowly rob all their riches"

'What the hell?'

"That's why you should keep doing an excellent job. After all, it's the only thing you can contribute.."

He then leaned in and whispered to my ear "Being a bastard child" he taunted. He leaned back and stared at me, snickering as if it was a funny joke.

'Bastard?'

Upon hearing this, I remembered the time when Draco was beaten up by his father in middle school because he didn't win first place in a school contest. When I visited him, I accidentally heard a hard slap at his father's office which echoed the whole room. Draco's cheek was swollen. He must be in pain but he remained with a blank expression. At that time, I thought that his father was just being hard on him being the eldest child.

So all this time...Draco's an illegitimate child? I have no idea at all. Is that why he always beats himself all the time? I want to talk back but my mouth won't utter a single word. Seeing this, he just chuckled and walked away with a satisfied smile.

"Draco's right, he's a jerk" I mumbled to myself as I glared at his figure as he walked away. And did he say to rob our riches? That crazy scoundrel. Now, that made my night worse. No wonder Draco hates that guy to his gut. Is this how everyone treats him here? A pawn to be used by everyone. Upon knowing this, I unconsciously felt mad for Draco's situation. The Pierce family is well respected in higher society, that's why I also thought the same about them. But now, I can say that I'm too naive.

Feeling hopeless, I just laid down in Draco's bed as I stared at the white ceiling. This house is so depressing, even his room is very gloomy. How can he even sleep in this firm bed? Now, I miss being in my bed...

'Ugh, I want to go back home'
