At the edge of a forest overlooking a barren land of darkness, a pack of Beowolves was stalking around the body of a dying woman.
"What a waste. Cute women should never see such a violent end."
Out of the forest a man seemed to appear from the shadows of a tree. The Grimm prepared to attack the man when suddenly they cowered to the sides, fear entering their minds for the first time. The man just ignored them as he approached the woman. Raising a hand, the figure beckoned with a single finger. Slowly a silvery sphere of light rose from the body, and came to rest in the man's hand. The woman took a last ragged breath before finally dying of her injuries, ones not created by any of the surrounding monstrosities.
"Don't worry my dear, this isn't the end of your time here. I happen to have a use for you, and who knows, you might even find a way back into the world."
As he finished speaking the orb floated upwards, and entered a ruby at the base of his throat.
"Just because the brothers have abandoned this word doesn't mean I will."
Turning around, the man took three steps then vanished, though his voice could still be heard.
"After all, they aren't the only gods around…."
***********************
I run through the forest hunting, but this is not for food. The scent is strong still, tracks easy to see. Rage burns in my heart. My brothers …..sisters….all taken by one of the black ones. Normally we would be ignored, they only hunt humans, but this one was different. It is crazed, blood-drunk.
As the sun moves across the sky I continue to hunt, spotting other kills it has made. Deer and others, it no longer cares what it kills. It matters not, I will find a way to bring it down.
Wait, I just caught another scent ….humans...female? I growl out loud, scaring some birds. This is perfect, the black one is hunting.I race ahead, caution forgotten in my excitement.
**Patience** I hear a voice inside my head. Slowing my pace, I continue following until I reach a break in the trees, and there I see it.
I watch as it stalks towards two small human females. One with fur like the sun, and the tiny one dark as shadows. I can smell their fear from here , and it is powerful. Even so the larger one stands in front of the black one, protecting her even though she doesn't have a chance.
**Help them and take your vengeance** again the voice in my head speaks.
Racing forward I tear into the back of its leg, never stopping my run as I dive through a bush to find another path. As it turns roaring at the shaking leaves I come at it again, biting into it's other leg. But I am too focused on my prey, and not it's movements as I leap into the air aiming next for it's throat I am hit by it's claws across the side of my head. Pain explodes through me as I am flung into a nearby tree, and fall to the ground. I manage to stand back up as it turns back to the humans. Barely am I able to see it but I don't care as I race to the nearest tree I leap into air. Climbing a few steps I then kick off from it, twisting around in mid jump to land on its back, sinking my fangs into its neck. It flails around, roaring it's pain to the sky. As it staggers back, it's legs buckle from the wounds I first gave it, dropping to the ground. Taking the opportunity I jump down, and dodging under its swinging arm I seize it's throat, twisting and jerking back and forth. Planting my paws against it's chest, I kick off while I rip my head back, tearing out it's throat. As I hit the ground the last of my strength leaves my body, and I collapse. Before I pass out, I manage to turn to look at the females one last time. Blue eye meets purple and silver.
**Good little one, you succeeded. Now remember those two. Don't forget their scent for they are your destiny.**
My vision fades, and next I know I am floating in a dark void, no longer feeling any pain.
**Welcome, little one. I'm happy to see you're awake. We have much to talk about, but first I have a gift for you.**
Out of the darkness floated a ruby in the shape of an eight-pointed star with an eye in the center. As it approached me, I only then realized that I couldn't move.
**relax and receive not only my blessing, but a new future. Soon you will understand, little one, but for now you sleep and heal.**
Behind the ruby, a disembodied hand appeared, and with a single finger, it pushed the "gift" into my empty eye socket. As pain explodes in my head I loose my calm, howling to the nonexistent sky. Then it is gone as sudden as it started, and I open my eyes…!! My eyes… I have two again. Turning my head I sniff the air, but nothing. No scents at all here, like nothing exists, not even me. My legs suddenly buckle, and I drop the … ground? Strange that I feel solid ground but I am floating on nothing. I let out a low growl as my consciousness fades.
