As a young woman Adair Fox enters the civilization test, the most difficult test in the entirety of the Galactic Empire, in hopes of achieving that highest of honors and finally becoming eligible to meet her parents. During the test Adair acts out of desperation and uses a dangerous ritual to save her people, only to get betrayed by them shortly after. Unfortunately not only does Adair fail the test, but she also finds herself trapped in a void for thousands of years until she eventually meets up with another being. She makes a deal with the Reincarnation Machine, which allows her to go back in time and become a sorceress.

The Forgotten Ability

Adair continued her questioning, "Doesn't me lighting up that chair in the other room mean something? Will you really be just kicking me out just like that?" This is because while she really hated being used like a test subject, she knew that if she went back to the planet with Hank, she would pretty much lose the opportunity to grow and get stronger.

She also knew that if she let this opportunity slip, then she would also lose the opportunity to eat all of the amazing food that was offered here, and she would need to go back to eating fulfilling but bland food, which was a very stark difference than the food here.

This did make her question, though, what was she willing to give up to keep this opportunity alive. She knew that she would refuse slavery or anything of that sort, but besides that, just knowing that she would be missing would haunt her for the rest of her life since there would always be that thought of what could have been.
