Karen stood in the hallway.

He saw the little girl's father anxiously pacing back and forth and nervously signing papers, while her mother was sobbing.

In the operating room, doctors came in and out, and from their eyes not covered by the masks, Karen could feel the situation was not optimistic at the moment.

He turned his head,

glancing at the bench he had previously sat on,

and then looked at the briefcase under his arm.

He felt that he should sit back down and continue waiting.

But he was resistant to sitting back down at this time.

So he just stood there, standing all the time.

The planned surgery had taken a drastic turn and changed to a rescue operation.

As time went by, he saw the little girl's mother's spirits waning, her eyes becoming hollow and numb, and her father ignoring the environment, taking out a cigarette and trying to light it, but never catching fire, even dropping the lighter on the floor.
