Special

Stephen and Remedio moved to one side to have a private discussion. Jardan moved to Callie and pulled her into a short hug.

“It’s okay.”

“Are you sure?” She pulled back. “They didn’t seem that happy with what I did.”

His eyes slid over to the others and shrugged. “It’s fine.” He’s words didn’t sound it. “We have to trust them.”

Callie didn’t miss his tone. There was a worrying edge to it which brought her defenses up even higher. She wasn’t so sure her best interests were in the forefront of the minds of others. She’d have to keep an eye out and protect herself. She wasn’t even sure her mother would protect her now that so much had happened.

The men broke apart. This time Remedio walked toward her. He watched her in a wary manner.

“Let’s go back to some basics. Do you think you can control it enough to not pull as much energy to yourself?”

Taking a deep breath, she answered, “I can try. Before I just let it happen.”
